"How do I look?" They twirled around, admiring the way the dress twirled around them, all pink lace and frills, so different from anything the city would allow. It took a lot of work, and personal favors, to get this, but it was worth it. Usually, They were all close cropped hair and boney limbs, nothing special, but this dress made them feel... pretty.
"Ravishing, babe, absolutely gorgeous," Daniel came up behind them, looking at them both in the mirror, wrapping his arms around their waist and resting his head on their shoulder, "How does it feel? Comfy?" He pressed a kiss into their cheek.
"It's amazing," They sighed, leaning into Daniel's embrace, "it feels so me. Like this is how I'm supposed to feel all the time."
The pair stayed like that for a moment, wrapped in each other's arms, softly swaying under the shitty lighting of their small basement hideout. It was dirty and confining, but it gave them small moments of privacy, where no one could regulate what they did or didn't do, where they could pretend to be free for a moment. But it never lasted.
"You know," They whispered into Daniel's ear, "we could always be like this, if we just--"
"We can't leave," Daniel interrupted, frustration evident in his voice, "you know it's too dangerous. You know what happened to Sarah."
"I'm sorry I know, I just can't live like--"
"I can't lose you too," He interrupted again, quietly this time, taking their hand in his own.
