I don’t see what a gay couple has to do with a story line. Heartland has plenty of straight couples waltz in and out of their script - it wouldn’t be difficult in the slightest to have one of those couples be homosexual. Introducing a gay couple doesn’t mean there has to be four thousand follow up plot points about being gay and what it all means, because it means two people fell in love. Heartland needs to step up their representation, and saying that “it is just not in their storyline” is insulting.
No, he is her uncle. Georgie was legally adopted by Lou and Peter. She is as much their daughter as Katie is (legally, not biologically). Tim took a DNA test confirming Shane as his son. Despite the fact that there is no biological relation, they are considered related in terms of the law. Therefore, it would be an incestual relationship, same as if Shane and Katie wanted to date (which is even grosser, so we won’t go there). It’s the same as adopted siblings: they are not allowed to date, despite the lack of biological relation, because they are considered related. And, in Canada, incest is illegal.
