Book 6: Pretty much the bible for bikers.

Watson’s theory of motorbiking #1. All boys want to be cowboys. When I was a child my brother and I played cowboys; one Shooto, the other Poco. At this distance I’ve no memory of who was who but the arms of our sturdy sofa became the horses on which we rode the range and tamed the Wild West. In time the Lone Ranger became the Virginian, who in turn gave way to the Magnificent Seven and any number of Clint Eastwood films. Sofas became bikes and bikes became mortorbikes but along the way I never lost my love of cowboy films. There’s a direct link to the romantic loner on his travels; the outlaw on the fringe of society.

Cuando viajo solo, experimento una sensación de libertad que ocasionalmente se acerca al éxtasis. 

La libertad física es un elemento importante. La habilidad de ir y venir como te apetezca, de seguir cualquier impulso que te dicte la voz interior, es un lujo escaso en la mayoría de las vidas y debe de haber muchos que jamás se han permitido experimentar ese tirón interior, la brújula del corazón. Pero para mí es más valiosa aún la libertad de ser quien te apetezca  y como quiera que te sientas, en vez de tener que plegarte a los patrones que los demás se han acostumbrado a esperar de ti.

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and spending a majority of the weekend with this man. In the 1970’s, Ted Simon, a journalist from London, rode his motorcycle around the world. Four years and 45 countries later, he completed his journey. Then, 13 years ago at the age of 69, he did it again. 

He is truly an inspiring man, and everybody could learn something from him. I really hope our path’s cross again.
