Love doesn't have to make sense...to make sense.
Ted Mosby (How I Met Your Mother)
I was really upset with the HIMYM ending but then I realized.
Ted ends up with his ex, Robin
Tracy ends up with her ex, Max
So, after the divorce Robin became a recluse, throwing herself into work, not lettting herself be close to anyone.
In other words, she was like Season 1 Robin again.
And Ted went back to being hopelessly 'romantic' and falling in love too fast
In other words, he was like Season 1 Ted again.
And now Season 1 Ted has gone after Season 1 Robin.
Because we all know how well that went last time.

HIMYM Finale
To all those who thought it sucked, I feel for you. I, on more than one occasion have gotten to the final episode of a show and had the creator throw something at me that was sub-par and underwhelming. I too have sat there after the (in one case two part finale) and decided that, nope, that wasn't the finale, the episode a few back, that totally 'rebooted' time was the finale, they just got the scrolls mixed up.
So, I feel your pain (hey, I root for Swan Queen, Rizzles, and Bering and Wells, three ships that will no doubt break my heart before the end of their shows too), and I hope that y'all can find good ways to cope with how HIMYM ended.
But, I do have to say that personally, I loved this finale. Wow. Totally loved it. I had made my peace with who the Mother was, and I never ever thought that that would happen. And then, the finale. I thought it was brilliant. Awesome. And it put a smile to my face. Woo! (Sorry, I can't contain it... :D)
HIMYM *SPOILERS*
Definitely unpopular opinion time, I really liked the show's finale.
I know practically EVERYONE is getting upset about the HIMYM finale, but I actually enjoyed it for a few reasons. 1. It's SO realistic. Relationships don't last forever; and even though we knew Marshall and Lilly would always be there, the chances of all 3 of the couples staying together "till death do us part" were slim. 2. I understand that it was written LONG AGO. The ending of the show was decided before the writers knew how many seasons were left. Had the show ended at 8 and only devoted 2 episodes to the wedding, i feel like the conclusion would've made sense. Because Robin and Barney's wedding took so long, we devote so much more meaning to it.
3. RobinXTed managed to find its way into every single season of the show, the writers planned this for so long
4. This is my main point and almost sole reason i'm okay with the finale: Robin and Barney were compatible Ted and Traci were compatible And this was because they were SO SIMILAR and while each couple found love and worked in their own time, they weren't soulmates because they were too similar. Ted loved 'the mother' and Barney loved Robin, but they were never endgame because they are too compatible and this show isn't about perfect endings.
Ted and Robin have been brought up since the beginning because they have a connection that SIMILARITIES just don't cover.
MY FIRST OTP IS CANON.
I'M BLOODY AND HALF-DROWNED IN TEARS BUT MY VERY FIRST OTP IS CANON.
MY GOD EVERYONE SHUT THE HELL UP
You all are totally missing the point. Yes the whole last season was weird and yes it was dumb to have a whole season be one weekend and the last episode be 16 years BUT their ending was actually perfect. FIRST off life is messy, and doesn't end up where it's supposed to. Barney and Robin were never going to work just get over yourselves. This is shown by the fact that the only person Barney would ever settle down with was his own daughter. Moving on, Lily and Marshall obviously ended perfectly and happy because they're basically the happy character devices that make us feel warm and fuzzy about life. Then there's Ted. Ted and Robin. The love of Ted's life is the mother. That's his soul mate. He will never stop loving her. But, because life is a god damn mess, she dies. Much like her own boyfriend died might I add. Another nice little plot device. And again because life is messy the person you end up with and grow old with might not be your soulmate, or one love. The ending did not negate 9 years of character development-it solidified it. (You don't sit on your deathbed and say, woop, I'm dying, there goes 86 wasted years of character development) Ted and Robin needed to have the lives they always wanted before ending up together. Robin went traveling and didn't settle down. And Ted had a family and a house in the suburbs and his perfect woman. Only after all that could they finally end up together. It's actually kind of poetic in a way. Ted and Robin weren't soul mates, but they were always meant to be. Life-and the past nine seasons- just had to happen first.
