How long do you think it was just Stanley staring at pages trying, yes, but ultimately just going "I'm too stupid" or "I'm not smart enough" because out of the two he was the dumb one? Out of everyone he was the dumb one? Because its how he dealt with it most his life anyway, why should he try when it's hopeless, right?
He's the dumb twin so he shouldn't try to be smart, it's a fact, it's who he is. Stanford will help him in classes and he won't need to be smart anyway because he will have his brother and his fists and they're going to sail anyway which doesn't require the things he's bad at! Sailing and adventuring is only the things he's good at, it's only things he enjoys learning and it won't make him feel lesser than...

Ooh yes definitely watch the Ritual! I'm super picky about horror but it's very good imo and the creature design is easily one of, if not theee, best I've ever seen, in terms of originality and scare factor.
