PSA: depression is not someone's "excuse" for being lazy. depression does no make you lazy and it's not a reason for you to tell someone they need to start "making an effort".
yes, some people people with depression lay in bed. no energy is a symptom, but that's not the whole story. depression doesn't just make you tired and lazy. it makes you have no motivation whatsoever, because it makes you feel like no matter what you do. you will never live up to the expectations of what people need for that task. so why try? it makes you feel worthless and so empty to a point where you don't look both ways before crossing the street and you don't wear a seatbelt in the car. not because you're trying to kill yourself but because you don't care whether you live or die. what's worse is that no one sees if you have it. because people with depression are the ones who grew up making everyone else happy. they're the ones who painted a smile on their face every now and then because they didn't want people to have to go out of their way to help them. they're were always "fine", "just a little tired", "rough night" but on the inside something was always screaming "help me" "i want to die" "why am i here" i'm drowning" "can't anybody see this"
depression is not someone being lazy.
depression is someone slowly dying on the inside without a way out.
