𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄 of Philos marked the presence of a tail against his back with little more than a sideways glance before he looked fixedly into the fabled beast's red eyes. His kind had been nearly hunted to extinction for the terror they wrought upon the lands, brought to heel only by the growing Order of Justitia. Yet there was not fear upon Xavier's face now, though surely he reeked of it the day Sylus found him just passed the mouth of the cave, too wounded to fight back if it had come down to it. But the strangely human-esque creature had only taken him in, even offered him scraps of meat and a means to recover. After only a few short days together, he had already become more confident in how to tow the line with him, just as it seemed he was curious to do back with him.

Well. Xavier was clearly not above a game of chicken with an overgrown one with black claws and a finely sculpted jaw. And it had already occurred anyway to him the night before, to his amusement -- who would ever buy that the prince had exchanged coquetries with a fearsome dragon and survived ?
His eyes appeared round and unoffending as he spoke unhurried and without malice, only something tinged with a hidden darkness lingering there in his blue gaze if Sylus scrutinized him any further, ❝ I thought you dragons liked hoarding your future meals close from thieves. So why should I struggle against my would-be fate now ... ? ❞
really funny to see you mention maya in the tags because i was actually going through your maya tag to learn more about the critter which is why i pulled up ancient posts ^_^
okay icant get out all my worldbuilding and character stuff :( saving thtother ask for that... . gonna give a big thing on that when jm ready for it...
okay so. mayas mother and father are both local politicians. her family has been doing this sort of thing for a few generations now. her mother was raised without any kind of care for herself not being taught how to manage all of the stress from it. and so not wanting her child to suffer how she did she taught maya everything she could about brain stuff what stress does how to counteract it, information on basically all the more common types of mental illnesses how to treat them signs of them and everything because she wanted maya to be as well equipped as possible for this. her mother has a very very long term perspective what shes trying to do for the city is stuff that will have effects at the very least hundreds of years in the future. maya is the exact opposite thinking there is no point in planning a future if it sucks right now and seeks to make the present as good as it can be hence why she became a courier.
kay so rough rough rough timeline of mayas life at 6 she got mr leafy her leafsheep (in the past these had been genetically enginnered to be bigger and change color when exposed to radiation to help save workers lives when they had to do stuff with reactors like a canary for coal miners. side effect is these things now can actually just absorb radiation and feed off it as well as sunlight) and got his name from picking him up spinning around and shouting out "mr leafy!" she will not let anyone know hes named this unless its the person she leaves him with when she has to work.
at 17 maya and amethyst depart from her city to protect amethyst from some bad people paid for a courier to help them travel the desert and they do so and arrive at one of the three towns to the west near the mountains. at this point amethyst says hey sorry i have to theyll look for me here but they wont look for you and takes off. maya is absolutely distraught this was the love of her life and gets taken in by an elderly woman willing to care for her until shes better she does nothing except lay in bed and feel bad for an entire month, at which she point signs up to be a courier and procceeds to haul stuff back and forth between the towns and city 6 outa 7 days a week until she is 20 at which point she meets four.
four is leaving an abusive dad and ends up named this because maya (courier 3) [theres a more to explain with the numbers :) ] doesnt like knowing names because as a city courier you could get stuck with anyone at any time and delevoping care for them means itll hurt when their gone.
four is oddly okay with not going by his name! and is also a bit obssessed with maya having heard about her when she first started doing this and is amazed at how dedicated she is to helping everyone. which also led to him getting an old copy of a courier manual and memorizing the entire thing.
they become closer as they do this together. and end up having a kind of really really complicated thing going on where they will kiss and stuff (maya is like if a husky was a person and also loves physical touch) but also refuses to put any labels to it. because of the stuff she all knows about everything her mother taught her she speaks of stuff very detachedly always stating events as they happened never what she felt or thought only what actions were taken. she doesnt want to put words to it because due to how she was taught this stuff once a label is put to something thats all it can be to her. also amethyst is the only person she can say she loves she has tried saying she loves four and cannot do it!
at 22 her and four have really connected shes talked about her amethyst troubles explained why she cant say the L word to four and explains that she has feelings for him that are just as intense and powerful as that but are slightly different enough and that she just doesnt have a word for it.
at 25 i believe her and four end up part of an expedition into the mountains near the town which all the townspeople are completely against but the goverment has only let the towns continue existing because it keeps more order in the city.
they get into the mountains stuff happens they find a entrance to a place from the world its late and set up shop to rest a person there reveals himself to be working for a foreign goverment as a spy trying to get access to whats in there maya sees fours in trouble shoves him down as hard as she can dives the other direction and shoots the guy twice. the smell of cooking meat is something that will cause her pain for years to come.
they have to hang onto some of the stuff from there for some time and while their doing that amethyst gets contacted by a goverment agent buncha stuff happens and she ends up spying on them to make sure they wont try and get that to a rival goverment. which is. laughable. at this point given maya is completely ruined with guilt and ptsd from murdering someone and is just in bed in the dark refusing to leave.
after some time amethyst caves and contacts them (strictly not allowed) and maya is incredibly mad that she was there and didnt leave any kind of sign that she was there. stuff happens they have to hang onto the stuff for another month maya gets a medal for civilian bravery in defending her country (she killed the guy to save someone she loved) and it becomes a permanet reminder of what she did.
once thats all gone maya insists amethyst live there at least in the town because she has fallen apart over this girl and the trauma and they have a long long talk over everything maya having realized all kinds of stuff she did wrong when they were younger and they end up uh. making up lets say. mayas horribly guilty over that tells four immediately he runs away for the day and when they next talk he says hes fine with that having happened (hes not) because he understands how close they are and doesnt want it happening again.
from there theres lots of little bits and pieces ive put together but nothing big enough to put it on the chart. 👍✌️
