This unusual ticket or wearable label was produced for use during the Springboks (South African) rugby tour of New Zealand in 1956, and particularly for the disastrous match in Auckland on 25 August, won 37-0 by the Springboks. It has been said that that loss motivated the All Blacks to come back and win the fourth test.
The verso has a rubber stamp with the words: "Manaakitia ta tatou manuhiri" - "Lets look after our guests".
Kia kaha, kia toa. Maoris v Springboks, Auckland, August 25, 1956. [Ticket /label]
