i haven’t seen a much about this on tumblr, but if you’re not aware of what’s going on in puerto rico, i urge you to read up.

after a series of arrests in a massive corruption scandal and the publication of 889 pages of a private telegram chat shared by the governor and a few of his closest allies, people are taking to the streets to demand the resignation of governor ricky rosselló. it’s been about four consecutive days of protests outside the governor’s mansion.

today was the most intense by far.

it’s worth noting that our current governor, who was elected by a mere 42% (so not even a proper majority), is the son of former governor pedro rosselló. this is a man who’s lived an extremely privileged life. who always saw governorship as his birthright. he’s never had to face consequences for anything in his life.

the leaked telegram chat revealed gross sexist and homophobic comments. they incite violence against journalists and political opponents. mock puerto ricans living in poverty in the wake of hurricane maria. joke about the thousands of deaths caused by the hurricane, and the government’s inefficiency during the recovery.

the people will not rest until the governor resigns, or is impeached.

hopefully, this is only the beginning. this is the tip of the iceberg.

so please, i urge you to stay updated. the mainstream media forgets about us far too quickly.

Este es el argumento legal que se usó para que Pedro Pierluisi juramentara como gobernador. Hasta tanto el Tribunal Supremo no declare inconstitucional la ley 7 1952/2005 lo ocurrido hoy es válido. A mi entender el catalogar a este gobernador como ilegítimo no aplica. Lo que pretende, o pretendía, hacer Thomas Rivera Bullschitz sí podría catalogarse como usurpación. Esta es la que nos guste o no. La renuncia de Rosello nunca significó que la constitución y las leyes de Puerto Rico quedaron sin efecto. Hay que ver qué pasa el lunes.
