In data collected by a powerful radio telescope, astronomers have found what appears to be a perfectly spherical bubble. We know more or less what it is – it's the ball of expanding material ejected by an exploding star, a supernova remnant – but how it came to be is more of a puzzle.

Astronomers from Western Sydney University, led by astrophysicist Miroslav Filipovic, have discovered an almost perfectly spherical object in our Milky Way galaxy.

Nicknamed “Teleios”, this mysterious structure was detected using the ASKAP radio telescope. Scientists believe it may be a rare supernova remnant — but its near-perfect symmetry and missing X-ray signals make it a true cosmic mystery.

Is this a typical stellar explosion… or something we don’t fully understand yet?
