ao3 wrapped 16. what's your most common "additional tags" tag? I use "canon divergence" tags a lot and also "ficlet" or "drabble." The latter will probably always be true—I have a lot of fun writing short stuff. 17. your favorite character to write this year? This is an interesting question because this year, I wrote for a great variety of fandoms. I wrote for House MD, The Secret History, Avenue 5, Inception, Dead Poets Society, and Our Flag Means Death, which is probably the most I've done in one year. (I also drafted but didn't post fics in other fandoms, like Lewis, so the list is even longer). Anyway, I have a huge soft spot for Izzy Hands. In my opinion, season 2 of Our Flag Means Death had a lot of flaws writing-wise, but Izzy is just this brilliant lightning rod regardless. Con O'Neill, in general, is amazing. I also liked writing Todd Anderson (DPS) and Arthur (Inception) because I see myself in them, especially Todd. I make it a point not to intentionally borrow from my own life too explicitly in stories because I think readers can always tell when you're not making things up anymore and it usually doesn't read well. However, when I'm able to pull from my experiences in a way that feels natural and it's just a nice coincidence, that works. It adds depth and intimacy without feeling like you're, say, airing dirty laundry. 29. favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
I really like this line from a vague idea I'm still working on: "In other news, I've discovered that keeping a secret is three times as heavy as what's being hidden." I also love, "[m]en aren't supposed to die before their fathers do" from Knots in Wood. That was a line that occurred to me a few years back and I've been sitting on it. It finally found its home, though, and it's a perfect fit. In general, I'm incredibly proud of that fic. It's probably the most personal thing I've ever posted. If someone asked me what story of mine feels the most me, it would be a great contender.
Thanks for the ask, bb :)
