"What you think is funny about your own life is your own concern," he explains. "I will not laugh at another's misfortune." Especially not someone whose favor he seeks.

FINN WEISS: IT'S NOT A WEAKNESS TO SEE THE GOOD IN PEOPLE. IT'S NOT A FLAW OR A BAD THING TO TRUST. the cynical part of them tries not to laugh out loud. seeing the good in people was something dallas could do easily, when she was a detective. even after witnessing so many bad things, she tried to keep their father's outlook on life - that the good outweighed the bad. she's learned her lesson, over the years. 'you can keep thinking that until someone proves you wrong,' dallas sniffed, changing the film in their camera to keep their hands busy. 'don't come crying to me when that happens, though,' @tellwolves.

'neither of those feelings are uncommon, june,' hannibal couldn't count the amount of patients he's had who have dealt with loss. there were countless reasons for a person to seek help from a psychiatrist, but processing the death of a loved one made the top of the list. he's sitting across from the girl, body language and expression open and neutral - everything a therpist should be. doctor lecter lays a light gaze on june. 'grief has no guidelines. it is not unusual for us to feel sad, angry - even strange, with no real definition as to what we are truly feeling. you were close with your uncle, and the loss of him has effected you in a great way. you do not have to feel ashamed of anything you're experiencing,' @tellwolves.

The question is accompanied by one of those Finn Weiss looks, where he paints you complete with the color palette of your thoughts and the chiaroscuro of your feelings, immortalizing you in his mind's eye with a single brushstroke.

It's frightening, those looks, how they strip you clean.

"I..." he begins, clumsily, grasping the doorway with too-thin fingers. He runs his free hand through his curls, tugging at the more unruly ones in a futile attempt to tame them. The kids are asleep (he's just been in to check), as it's half one in the morning, and he wonders why Finn isn't (especially when he hasn't got his sketchbook or his easel out).

Instead of asking that, and instead of telling him the truth, he simply says,

"...I'm alright."

Elijah looks down at the floor, decidedly not meeting Finn's gaze, and informs him, "You don't have to do... this, you know." He wants to say, I can manage, but he can't, can he? He doesn't want to lie. Not to Finn.

finn: "you're not going to recover unless you get some sleep."

he doesn't have it in him to suppress the whine, or the grumble, or whichever noise feels most appropriate -- none of the usual noises are appropriate, because finn hasn't met the animal, yet -- but he manages, although something has to come out in its place. this time it's a long, hefty sigh, that hurts as it billows forth from his (likely to be) broken nose.

"hard to." he's not arguing. he agrees with finn. it's just a lot to ask of the vampii, in a new environment.
