neither of them wanted this, that much was obvious. not after what they did to each other. dallas held onto their bittnerness like a knife, ready to use it against others whenever needed. she hadn't always been one to hold a grudge, but the one she has for marcus stays close to her chest. they're in her apartment, standing in front of the wall of newspaper clippings, photos, and notes, all connected with red string. dallas shouldn't even be involved in this case, but she thought it was her right to be - after all, dallas and marcus are the ones who started it all, with that first cold case. 'look - i know this is the last place you wanna be. trust me. i'm not too fuckin' fond of you being here, either,' the words are spat out as they glance up at the work she's been doing. 'but we have to do this. no one else can, you know that, right?' @detharris.
"I'd like to believe I'm IMMUNE to career ruining opportunities. A little hard to be demoted from the basement," the words mused, a short chuckle followed closely after. Truth be told, it was something that had ran through her mind before coming here, but a part of her wanted advise. "Lucky for you, I never under think a bad idea. I'm here because I think it'll help," her shoulders shrugged, her lips pursed together. "You think you'd be able to take a look at something for me? Friend to friend," if that's what you could call it.
'could be worse - you could be typing your reports from the shitter,' friend to friend. dallas doesn't remember having any of those. not anymore. but consider her interest piqued - it wasn't every day an active fbi agent comes to the aid of a corrupt cop who's entire career was ruined in an instant. dallas steps aside after a long moment, ushering dana inside. 'welcome to my humble abode. kick your feet up. make yourself comfortable,' it's far from nice - papers scattered across most surfaces, clothes strewn about, lots of used coffee cups placed by the sink - but it worked for what dallas needed. they closed the door and turned back toward scully with her arms crossed. 'what've you got for me?'
he's not surprised by the phone call . maybe he should be ? maybe a more morally sound individual would strike up an argument , flare up some hostility , some disappointment towards her choices — but WHO IS HE TO TALK ? to judge ? to criticize ? @detcain needs help ; if sebastian needed the same kind of assistance , they would be there for him . she'd help him like this ( albeit reluctantly , he reckons ) . that's why he obeys their instructions and drives as quickly as he can towards the police station , tires screeching . he puts the rental car through its paces and reaches the parking lot in no time , dashing inside , smoothing down his shirt to look somewhat presentable at the site of the law . eventually he meets dallas — eventually there's a bail-out and THE WALK OF SHAME towards the door . sebastian stays silent until they make it outside . ❝ so what was it this time ? ❞ at last , a smile . ❝ did you have fun ? ❞
dallas waits impatiently, walking back and forth behind the bars of her enclosure, trying her hardest not to get into a fight with the snarky male they've been sharing the cell with. it wouldn't do for her to get into a fight in jail - they shouldn't even be here, right now. just another thing to add to the long list of inicidents on their record. when the officer brings out his keys and allows dallas out of the cell, he gives her a look that says you'll be back, one they meet with a sarcastic smirk before they go to collect their things at the front desk. seeing sebastian waiting for her was a sight for sore eyes, but she was too proud to say so. instead, dallas gives a scoff. 'you make it sound like i was on a field trip or somethin',' they slide their wallet into the back pocket of their jeans, checking their camera afterward, only to find that the sd card had been taken out. irritation bubbles up inside of her. 'god fuckin' dammit...' eyes roll towards the sky as they walk toward seb's car, dallas shaking her head as she pulls out a cigarette and lights it up. 'tresspassing,' she says it like it's no big deal, stopping at the car door to blow the smoke from her mouth. 'how much do i owe you? for bail,'
@detcain sent: “ you’ve forgotten that feeling safe is the most dangerous thing of all. “ - the assassins.
her cigarette burns between delicate fingers, gaze staring out over the rooftop. " maybe. " the word is soft, punctuated by a drag. safe has never been in her vocabulary. when you're born into this business, you don't learn soft things like that. you can wish and wish and wish but it never happens. the array of scars and bruises that pepper her body are enough proof of that. the smoke curls into the night sky, wisps disappearing and entering the ether.
" perhaps it's just wishful thinking. wouldn't it be nice to think that you're safe for...for just once in your life? " sadie offers the cigarette in dallas' direction; a peace offering. " -- or have you eschewed all forms of softness? "
this life had hardened dallas. it made her believe that the world was filled with shadows just waiting to die, or be killed. being alive didn't mean shit, and so they did the work they were told to do, went on with their life without really living it at all. taking human life made dallas numb to the world, but that didn't mean they weren't alert to the dangers around them. 'feeling safe means letting my guard down, and letting my guard down means fucking dying,' dallas glances at sadie for a moment before taking the cigarette, inhaling its toxins and holding them in until her lungs burned before relasing the smoke up towards the sky. 'you don't get to be soft and do the work we do. you haven't learned that by now?'

she understands just about as much as gloria does as to why dallas insisted on pulling away, even when the other woman was basically the only person they have left. some days were easier than others, but most times, dallas hated themselves enough that they thought gloria was better off without them. hilt of palms press hard against eyes, causing colors to pop behind lids, before she's forced to look up at gloria. eyes meet the other's, trying and failing to look okay. 'i'm fine,' dallas mumbles, but doesn't mean it. 'seriously. stop looking at me like i'm a kicked puppy or something, jesus,' @medicbled.
'i don't know what you want from me, bonacorso,' taking a long swig from their bottle, they allow the beer to travel all the way through their mouth, down their throat, and into their stomach before she even thinks about turning to meet lily's gaze. they've been off the force for two years, now - she wasn't used to having expectations put on her, anymore. 'my help has a price, no friends and family discount. and i sure as shit don't get involved beyond what i'm paid to do,' @bladedflower.
'being seen with me is a career ruiner, agent,' dallas leans against the frame of their front door, blocking the view into their small, rundown apartment. they haven't invited dana in yet, and they didn't know if they were going to. depends on what, exactly, a member of the fbi wanted. dallas crosses her arms over her chest, looking entirely uninterested as they stared down at scully. 'i'm assuming you thought that through before you showed up on my doorstep,' @beyondthescully.

FINN WEISS: IT'S NOT A WEAKNESS TO SEE THE GOOD IN PEOPLE. IT'S NOT A FLAW OR A BAD THING TO TRUST. the cynical part of them tries not to laugh out loud. seeing the good in people was something dallas could do easily, when she was a detective. even after witnessing so many bad things, she tried to keep their father's outlook on life - that the good outweighed the bad. she's learned her lesson, over the years. 'you can keep thinking that until someone proves you wrong,' dallas sniffed, changing the film in their camera to keep their hands busy. 'don't come crying to me when that happens, though,' @tellwolves.
RILEY VIKTOR: WOULD YOU BELIEVE I'M SINGLE? 'no. actually, i'm surprised. definitely not disappointed, though,' that's why they had come over here. because they were hoping she was. dallas was nothing if not straightfoward. maybe she wasn't always honest, but she spoke her mind, more often than not, and stepping up to the other woman, dallas wanted her to know why they were here, right off the bat. 'but now that i know, can i buy you a drink?' leaning against the bar beside riley, dallas gives a crooked smile, glancing over her features, over her lips, and back up to meet her eyes. 'since i won't be stepping on anyone's toes,' @roseguided.
SEBASTIAN MORAN: ON MY WAY TO YOU IN TEN MINUTES. ''bout damn time,' dallas holds the phone to her ear, talking as quiet as she can with an officer standing just off to her right. the fact that she was able to con him out of another phone call was a miracle, and they knew they weren't going to get another opportunity like this one. 'maybe drive fast? don't think my cell mate's going to enjoy learning i'm an ex cop,' a fact which, believe it or not, also would not help her out of an arrest. it's definitely not their first time in jail, and they doubted it would be her last. she should be thankful sebastian answered the phone and was willing to bail them out, at all. knowing she sounds ungrateful, dallas adds - 'i owe you one,' @gunbash.
