The Guayaquil Ecuador Temple’s floor plan is identical to that of the Bogotá Colombia Temple and features the same Brazilian granite on the exterior walls. Like the Bogotá Temple, the Guayaquil Temple experienced lengthy delays in the approval and construction process, and ground wasn’t broken for the temple until fourteen years after the temple announcement. President Russell M. Nelson, then a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, said that the opening of the Guayaquil Temple was “a very important hinge point in the history of [Ecuador].”
