First month of my temperature a day project, the pattern is by TeenyWeenyXStitch on easy, amazing pattern, came with some small free patterns as well. Anyways ignore that I'm posting this a week into February, and have not even started February potions yet.

Science Saturday

We return to our Historical Curriculum Collection children’s book All Around Us by Wilbur L. Beauchamp, Gertrude Crampton, and William S. Gray, and published by Scott, Foresman and Company in Chicago in 1944. This is Book B in the Scott Foresman Basic Studies in Science: Curriculum Foundation Series. The series was based on the experiential “Look and Learn” approach.

Previously we highlighted sections on animals and plants from this book. Today we focus on the “Sun, Wind, and Weather” section with emphasis on sunlight and shadow, using thermometers, and the wind as force. Russian-born Chicago artist and illustrator Gregory Orloff did the illustrations for “Do Shadows Help Tell Time?” and the girls experimenting with thermometers, while the remainder are by the husband and wife team of A. F. Hurford and Miriam Story Hurford.  Miriam Hurford is remembered especially as one of the illustrators for Scott Foresman’s Dick and Jane readers, which was written by William S. Gray.

Man of Your Dreams

Cold. The cold of the brick wall at your back. The cold of the winter air on your skin. His cold hands brushing, touching your hot skin. Heat. Heat in his gaze. His eyes that burn your soul as the cold air chills your skin. His lips cold on your jaw. Mouth hot on your neck tasting you. Marking you. You’re light headed. Your breath comes in fast as your heart races. A voice in your head coolly tells you to stop, move before someone sees. The heat building in you blocks it out. You can’t feel the cold anymore. Just him. His chest against your own. His breath tickling the skin he just kissed. The only sound heard is your breathing, panting heavy, a gasp, a moan, in the silent night air. You want him. You need him. You have him. His fingers grip your thighs tight enough to bruise as he hitches them around his hips. Your skirt is hiked up around your waist. You sit up with a gasp in bed. Alone. The red numbers on your alarm clock flash. 4 am. You’re hair sticks to your sweaty skin as you fall back to your pillow. You will not sleep again tonight. As you push the covers off and stand you can’t see the red scratch on your back from a brick wall. They will fade by the time you finish your shower. The purple finger prints on your thighs will last long but not by much. They’ll be gone by the time you leave the house.
