You’d been sick for almost a week, your older boyfriend, Beau Arlen, had been switching from being a sheriff to your personal doctor. Every time he came home from work he’d always bring soups or medicine. The soups varied depending on what the officers brought to work that day and he’d always take some for his doll. “I brought you some potato soup, hun.” He said, taking long strides through the house and to the bedroom where you’d spend most of your days, too sick to move. “Thank you..” You mumbled. you sat up against the headboard as he handed the warm bowl into your small hands. the warmth bringing a sense of comfort to you, like a fire on a cold winters day.
After you finished your soup, he came back into the bedroom seeing the empty bowl and your tired expression. “How’s my baby girl doing? Did you like the soup?” He asked, sitting on the edge of the bed, sinking down onto the bed. his hand raising up to caress your cheek. “I’m doing better… the soup was delicious.” You say softly, leaning into his touch. “That’s good, anything else you need, Darlin?” His smile soft and an expression only you ever see on him. the look that reassures you that everything will be okay all the time. “Just you next to me..” You cough out.
He nods and takes off his boots, debris falling from the soul of the shoes. “Of course honey.” He grunts as he climbs in next to you. he wraps his arm around your shoulders and brings you closer to him, resting your head on his chest. The smell of cologne and burning wood filling your nose, it was always your favorite scent. “Are you comfortable, Babygirl?” He asks, drawing small circles on your shoulder with his thumb. You nod with a little hum as you begin to fall asleep. The sound of his heartbeat and slow breathing always did the trick to make you fall asleep in an instant. He stayed up most of the night, kissing the top of your head every 30 minutes, adjusted so his arm didn’t go numb, it went numb anyway. He loved these kind of nights, especially outside by the fire, the sound of nature a lullaby to you.
The next morning, you woke up exactly how you fell asleep, your head on Beau’s chest, his hand slid halfway down from where it was on your shoulder last night. His snores that the both of you argued about almost all the time that you’d say were too loud made you look up to his sleeping face. his mouth parted slightly that always had a chuckle slip from your lips. You shuffle around and he wakes, “Goodmorning, Doll. You sleep okay? Do you feel better?” He asks, rubbing his eyes and doing his ‘old man’ stretch. “Goodmorning, I slept good and I do feel a lot better.” You smile softly and he smirks. “I’m glad, Baby. Thought you were gonna be sick forever.” He teases as he gently grabs your nose like how you’d grab a babies nose to make them laugh.
He slipped out of bed, adjusting his denim Jacket and pants. He made breakfast for the both of you and talked about your plans for that day; go fishing, visit downtown and shop, maybe go out to eat as well.
As he stood up to grab the dishes from breakfast, he leaned back and sneezed.
“You got me sick Baby Doll.”
