2014 Calhoun's Ten Miler by Knoxville Track Club
2014 Calhoun's Ten Miler by Knoxville Track Club. (https://flic.kr/p/jz4T8r)
In 8 hours I am signing up for a ten mile race
I might actually die. Why. Why am I doing this.
Charlottesville 10 miler!
1:18:21 :) That's 7:50 splits! Definitely makes up for the last half marathon.
Awesome course, awesome atmosphere, foot barely hurt at all, amazing weather... It felt like my first half when I was so well rested and stocked up on carbs and I pretty much smiled through the whole thing :)
A year ago I was just working up to being able to get through ten miles, period, and I was happy if I could keep my miles under 10 minutes. Hard work pays off!
Out of Practice.
I ran a lot in high school. As in all year round. Cross country, indoor track, outdoor track, I did them all. Now I am a college student in her sophomore year and my running is sporadic at most. This year I want to run my home town's ten miler like I used to do every year when I was in high school and this is my blog to keep me motivated.
By the time the ten miler comes around in March or April I want to be in shape and back into the practice of running everyday.
2014 Races!
As the year approaches its end I can’t help but plan my races for 2014 I still have a couple of races to complete before the end of the year, my usual turkey trot on thanksgiving morning and maybe a Santa race (really just want to dress up as an elf) I love spring races because there is no break in between. I mean, you can find a race in winter time easier than you will find one in the summer time. I already have some winter races planned. New Year’s Day 5K: gotta start the 2014 the right way! Tinkerbell Half Marathon! My first time traveling to the west coast! This race is going to be EPIC. I love ‘runcations” and I already have my wings! Valentine’s 5K: If anything for the silly outfit, ha! And when you least expected March is here and the spring races start So what races should I run in spring 2014? So many races, so little time, not enough $$ Definitely running the USA Rock’n Roll Half Marathon, not necessarily a spring race since it is on March 15th. This will be my third time running this race. It was my first half marathon in 2012 so it holds a very special place in my heart. It is a fun race, tho there are very hilly sections. My favorite course is the one at the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler, beautiful and flat! I hope to get lucky and win their lottery; it would be my third time running this race as well. I volunteered on 2011 so that I could have a guaranteed entry on 2012 and on 2013 I won lottery. Will I be lucky in 2014? Now the bad thing about the busy spring running season is that you have races happening on the same day, such is the case of the Nike Half Marathon and the Ocean City Half I have done the Nike before and I’m not sure if I want to spend that much money again. Of course you get a Tiffany’s necklace, but still. The race was fun and the bling was cute, but it is expensive! Right now I’m planning on entering lotto and if I don’t get it go to OC for the weekend. Have not run that one yet, but beach races are always fun. It becomes a “runcation” May 18th is the Marine Corps Historic Half another new one for me. I hear it has a horrible hill so I’m not a 100% sure about this one. We will see… And again two races on the same date June 1st Wine Country Half Marathon and Zooma Annapolis Half. I’ve done the wine one before, I remember the course being beautiful and flat, nothing beats flat. But I did not get to drink as much as I thought I would, ha! Could definitely run it again, but the Zooma races seem to be pretty awesome too. This one is a bit far from home, but Annapolis is gorgeous and they also give you a lovely necklace instead of a medal. Decisions, decisions… Bet I’m leaving some cool spring races behind. If anyone is reading this and has any suggestions, comments, funny jokes let me know.
Salt Lake Ten Miler.
My legs hurt already. (Okay, I really am a LITTLE bit excited) I want to skip the highs and lows I know I am going to experience during this race & move on to the sense of accomplishment and large stack of.peanut butter pancakes at the end. Anyways, I need some advice form the next few days. Since I just found out a out this race I am not necessarily trained for it BUT I usually do at least 4 running sessions a week where I knock out 3 to 6 miles at a time with general ease. I work out six days a week. What I’m saying is, I know that I am in shape and can do this. What I need to know is: should I run a long rub today? Rest tomorrow? anything particular I should eat Friday night before the race? Strentching advice? Etc?
