I am so Normal about Glass Heart (a Netflix jdrama) that I literally finally caved and made a tumblr (well, technically, realized I made one years ago that I never used) so I could fuel my obsession and also write this post.

This show almost, almost did something so amazing that I was never expecting to see. Because you think you're watching a show about pretty people forming a band (which tbh is enough for me to watch any show) and the main character is Akane and she has her crush on Fujitani. And the two of them are so obviously musically in love with each other from the beginning and I will die on the hill that Fujitani is the most aromantic person I have ever seen. (like. he is entirely music. this whole show is about him being in music love with TENBLANK, more on that later.) And I'm watching and I think ok, maybe this won't end in a romance, I've seen a few dramas like that lately and it's refreshing.

BUT THEN. Episode 8 and the first half of 9 happens. And I think: This was a Fujitani x Takaoka romance story all along and they flipped the script on me. Amazing, no notes, the "play guitar by side for the rest of my life//is this a proposal scene?" hit me like the "be my coach until I retire" scene from YOI. And then the rest of episode 9 happens and I'm yelling at my tv like "you cowards you had to have a straight couple kiss on screen."

That said, I can almost forgive the show even for that, because I do think that actually this is a show about being poly music in love with your bandmates, and no one can convince me otherwise. Like that bit in episode 9 when Sakamoto says "I love you" and then he wants to correct himself to "I love your drumming" except for in this show those are basically the same statements!! They are all music in love/simply in love with each other and trying to negotiate those relationships.

(Also my utter disappointment when I could not find a single thing on ao3 about this show. I want messed up fic about whatever is going on with the guys from Over Chrome. I want people shipping Fujitani and Takaoka. I want cute fic about TENBLANK. Also Isagi and Fujitani are so clearly toxic exes and what exactly happened there!!)

TENBLANK for Tokyo Girls Collection

Tidbits:

initially, only Shison was slated to appear on TGC– but 3 days before the event, he mentions it over dinner with the other members. Satoh proposes that they all join him on stage. Machida and Miyazaki report with free schedules, and the three of them appear as surprise guests on the show.

Apparently Satoh Takeru bought the jacket he's wearing just to pin badges onto it to fit his character, the dedication 👏😮

A day before the event, Satoh and Miyazaki took impromptu lessons just to learn how to catwalk coolly and properly, so as to not ruin the event.

In a later interview, Machida's new hairstyle is mentioned. He jokingly wishes that people would've told him how much long hair suited him before he had to cut it all off for the next role (10Dance); and the other members retaliate saying they kept telling him, but he didn't believe them. He placates that he would've had to cut it regardless for the next role. When asked if he'd grow it out again, the answer is uncertain lol

Wanted to redraw my favorite scene from Glass Heart Episode 5. The conversation between Sakamoto and Akane. I'm sad that they weren't the endgoal in season 1 but I'm more glad that they are in the Novel. They just have so much chemistry together. Also Akane with her Hayley Williams Orange and her Blink 182 shirt during the episde was just awesome to see (sad that she kept this haircolor only for an Episode tho. I wonder what the meaning behind this was....)

I'm typcally not a comic artist and usually focus on single illustration or Concept art. But I thought it would be fun to jump out of my comfort Zone and try out this format again. What's interesting about this comic is that you can see the literal moment when my head wanted to move on yet I tried to keep drawing it. My mad respect to all the comic artists out there. I am not having an ounce of your patience man..
