The taste of danger on your skin dear, I'll leave bite marks from where I tried to squeeze it out.
This is a line in this little prose poem I'm working on and it's tearing at me. There's something about the elements in it that I can't abandon, but the tense is all wrong. The current taste and the future marking do not add up to a past attempt. I could change the marking to a past action but in the future it sounds like a threat and the narrator is a huge threat.
It's times like these that I miss my old writing friends.
And I considered changing squeezed, a generally bodily fluid kind of gross, to sucked but then sucking skin just sounds like a straight out hickey and it's not about hickeys at all. But it's also not about vampires, vampires, vampires and they're whole thirst for blood scene. On it's own this line looks like it was crapped out of a Twilight fanfic.
