not sure if anyone has had a chance to explain--DMV is indeed the abbrev for Dept of Motor Vehicles, but is also used as a regional nickname for the area around Washington DC, because it was deliberately put in the middle of multiple states so that no one state could control it (see: "the Room Where it Happens" from Hamilton for details) and therefore draws commuters from Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. calling it the DMV started out in hiphop as a riff on the driving thing, and got popular!

In re: Pynch Pride & Prejudice, that then makes Gansey Bingley--works very well--and Jane is... Jane :D Blue's personality is all wrong, so maybe she needs to come blisteringly to Adam's defense at the same time that he's doing it for her...

Oh, in my eyes Blue’s personality being “wrong” for Jane is a gift, not a flaw. Really the worst thing that can happen with a fic that uses the plot of a pre-existing property is that it is too similar to that property. If I read a fanfic that reads exactly like Pride and Prejudice except the names are different and maybe there’s some new dialogue, I walk away from it thinking “okay but I could have just read Pride and Prejudice." The fun is in seeing “if we change these few things about the set up, what other things have to change because of that? How do they change? Once they start changing how can you stay true both to the new and original form?”

So you are absolutely correct that “in this version, it’s Jane who aggressively defends Elizabeth, instead of the other way around” is fun! That’s the kind of thing I want to see! The thought that immediately occurred to me was also to wonder if there was a way that the characters of Jane and Lydia could be merged together, essentially -- I don’t see Blue running away with a jackass, but is there a way that she could serve the roles both of “love interest of her best friend’s love interest’s best friend” and also “person who complicates the situation by causing a scandal.” Because I think that’s another thing that can really help to tailor an old plot to a new set of characters; look for places you can trim. Do we need five Bennet siblings in a fic that’s likely to be several times shorter than Pride and Prejudice? Not really. Is there any real point to dragging in a bunch of minor TRC characters just to cast them in roles where we don’t use them at all, since the plot is being compressed and shortened? Not really.

Although now I realize I’ve just missed an opportunity to cast Henry Cheng as the scandalous flirtatious little sister and damn am I disappointed in myself.

Not sure if someone else has already passed this on, but it is definitely illegal to scatter your ashes in certain places--esp Disneyland, and it's apparently a huge problem for Disney b/c people keep trying to do it sneakily on the Haunted Mansion ride!

It’s been mentioned a few times, yes, LOL.  I figured it was illegal (and know that leaving grave remains where thy’re not wanted is unethical), but was holding out hope that Disney had some sort of secret “Happily Ever After” package with a designated scattering area or something.  It’d cost an arm and a leg and possibly a firstborn, but it feels like something they’d do.

tbqh, as someone who lives up in the northeast and has family in western VA, taking the train and meeting up in DC is the way to do it. Amtrak is pretty cheap if you book in advance & Adam can sleep or do schoolwork on the train down, and then getting out of DC traffic would take almost half again as much time as the whole journey! So either Declan hates his life or Ronan can learn to hate the middle of Pennsylvania :D

I will be honest right back atcha, I started replying to this and it just turned into a long and boring rant about every bad experience I or a loved one has had with Amtrak. It, uh, it’s possible I resent Amtrak more than I realized. I want to love trains, Amtrak just makes it so hard.

I…don’t know? I wear colors I like and don’t really think about how they suit me perfectly. I do seem to look really good in black or yellow though.

I am lucky enough to have both, but the few close friends are the most important part of my life and the many distant friends are fun to talk to / hang out with sometimes so it’s not even slightly a competition.
