Early this week we handed over our beloved Madi community project to the Bankatta Women Committee amidst a local celebration in Bot-culture style ! Mayor, Ward Chair, Chairman Buffer Zone, alongside Nepal Inside Out’s director Maaike and her little daughter joined. Further guests were: Lions Club Bharatpur, co-ordinator Sushant, local mobiliser Sahansila, Ar. Aman from team SMA and our dear Swiss-Nepali initiator/manager Monika !

With an airy & elegant community hall, two inviting eco-cottages, solar energy and drinking water treatment Bankatta is almost ready to receive visitors ! Few last final touches will be done by the community with Lalu Maya and Sarita Bot taking the lead.

Cheers to Bankatta, becoming a model village running on Women Power !

The Kitchen is a common element among the three Cot-Tents, designed to blend into the Jagatpur landscape. It sits quietly amidst a small forest grove, wearing a thatch roof and a bamboo frame. A small mezzanine above the cooking area offers a sense of calm and an elevated view of the wild. We followed the concept of BIG FURNITURE for the dining area and the kitchen unit. The dining celebrates timber, a single, multi-purpose creation that serves as a dining table, drinks station, wine rack, and a display for treasures. The Y-shaped kitchen unit embraces slate, that feels cool to the touch and rich in texture. With the all-sided design, The Kitchen soaks in views from every direction. The morning sun from the east and the savannah to the south / south west, will result in gorgeous sunsets. The dining space becomes a front-row seat to the Spectacle of the pink golden skies. More than a place to cook and eat, it’s where stories and wildlife experiences are shared, set in one of Nepal’s most enchanting terai landscapes.

Beyond the savannah lies the series of ponds. The carefully crafted landscape, protected from erosion by natural fiber jute bags, is already becoming a sanctuary for fauna, where biodiversity flourishes. We’re fortunate to have a Local Rhino on our site, ensuring a “Rhino Approved Design”. The rhino has become an integral presence at the Pond, it arrives not as a stranger but as a rightful inhabitant of this reshaped landscape. It is not merely a pond, but a living body, shifting, breathing, and becoming one with the atmosphere, as if nature herself were sculpting it anew each day.

Many people when they think of Nepal they picture snow capped mountains in the mighty Himalayas but just 100 miles to the south there are sub tropical flatlands of the Terai. Here you can see wild animals living in a number of parks which range from elephants, rhinos, crocs, and these majestic animals. And as it stands Nepal is the only country to have a growing population of Tigers. Thanks to the work of the hundreds of people involved in protecting them. Personally i have been following Tiger spoor along the Rapti river before but have never got close. One day though it will happen.
