SUBLIME CINEMA #124 - KIAROSTAMI’S THE TASTE OF CHERRY
Iran has given rise to some incredible filmmakers, who often have defied censorship - and risked their lives - to express truth in their work. Abbas Kiarostami was and remains my favorite, and he managed a career using poetry and artistry to either skirt around or confront delicate political issues, and always aimed to express something revelatory about the human condition. It was a privilege to see a country which has been so at odds with the west through his eyes, and he crafted through pure empathy.
