Femslash February day 9 🥰 I cant believe there is no Terk femslash out there (unless Ive missed it… In which case, please enlighten me). But like she’s voiced by a lesbian who’s an lgbt activist and also has been serving butch realness since 1999. More Terk yuri NOW!!!
women of disney 37. tarzan (1999)
So I was looking up more crossovers and found this gem:
MLM AND WLW SOLIDARITY. 💖
Rosie O’Donnell determined my gender identity from the ripe age of 2
I feel like most people don’t know that Tarzan is one of *the* definitive movies of my childhood, you know… with the rather obvs gender ambiguity and all that… and also Phil Collins
If an award for most androgynous character design in an animated Disney film existed I’d say the award would go to Terk from Tarzan
The other female gorillas in the film don’t have super feminine “give her big eyelash so we know she’s a girl” designs or anything either, even Kala who still looks the most feminine only has subtle eyelashes, but Terk’s androgyny is just on another level.
It’s not just her appearance and tomboyish personality that make her so androgynous but even her voice is totally androgynous. I know she’s voiced by a woman (Rosie O’Donnell) but she just has such an androgynous voice (she was such a perfect choice to play Terk).
Also I know that Terk’s mom calls her by her full name Terkina in the beginning which definitely does sound like a girl’s name, I think she calls her “young lady” at some point (my memory could’ve made that up, I’m not sure) and Tantor calls her “Missy” at one point but it feels like those are easy to miss. Also her anger at having to wear Jane’s clothes at that one point of the movie could be mistaken for a male gorillas angry at having to pretend to be female, but in reality she’s just a tomboy angry about having to dress femininely lol.
I just really love seeing androgynous female designs in animation.
