Terry Boyd: Trying To Remain Positive
The work of Pittsburgh artist Terry Boyd will delight and surprise you all August long at Union Hall (the beautiful, naturally lit space above Bar Marco).
Below, a few words from the photographer:
Terry Boyd’s work carries prominent themes of experience and memory; The opening of his solo exhibition, ‘Trying to Remain Positive’, at The Union Hall was an event that embodied these themes for those lucky enough to attend it. The lively, buzzing atmosphere and the gorgeous, poignant works on display made for a night to remember, which supplemented and coordinated with Boyd’s ongoing focus on experience, memory, and reflection to a satisfying degree. One of the highlights of the opening was undeniably Boyd’s ongoing tattoo piece, “Moments Until I Die”, which continued for the duration of the event. Each tattoo is intended to be the physical manifestation of a complex, intangible feeling or memory; the tattoo serves as a visual reminder of this feeling or memory that will remain with the receiver of the piece for the duration of their life. Each individual with the good fortune to receive one of these unique, permanent pieces will have the memory of Terry Boyd’s exhibition opening and the feelings they carried with them for the duration of the event permanently etched into their skin. Those who did not get a tattoo will still remember the night for its vibrant atmosphere and for the works presented, which themselves invoked a sense of remembrance and nostalgia; the memories of the night itself are memories worth keeping.
