Vincent Massey Collegiate, Terry Fox Run c1981. On this day in 1981 Terry Fox, a genuine Canadian hero passed away at the age of 22. In 1977, at the age of 18 he was diagnosed with bone cancer and had to have his right leg amputated above the kne. While in hospital, he decided that one day he would run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Starting in St John’s on April 12 and stopping on September 1, 1980 just outside Thunder Bay, Terry ran 5,373 kms in 143 days through the Atlantic provinces, Quebec and Ontario. He only stopped because cancer returned, this time appearing in his lungs. While Terry did not fulfill his wish to run across all of Canada, his heroism, ideals and values compelled Canadians and people all around the world to raise more than $750 million to date, thru the annual Terry Fox Run. #terryhope #greatcanadian #realhero #marathonofhope #terryfoxrun #fundraiser #vmci #highschool #ff #flashbackfriday Source for photos of Terry Fox running: terryfox .org Credit & source for photo of Terry Fox memorial: Richard Keeling / Wikimedia .org https://www.instagram.com/p/BzRey51gjKC/?igshid=136z7q2qqff3b
