So if you've been reading my rambling posts about Galad, you may be aware that Rand is going to be my next WoT fanart portrait.

Because I am indecisive as hell, I started with one pose concept last week, but when I sat down to work on it more this evening, I had this idea that maybe I could paint Rand with a sword (since I gave Galad a heron marked blade). At first I thought I'd do Tam's heron mark blade, but then I got it into my head that Rand should have Callandor.

So I did a test image, experimenting with different techniques and blending modes to see if I could do a convincing crystal sword. I'm not sure I have it looking any good or if it will look good against the rest of the image. I'd have to alter the pose to make it work. The Rand portrait still has a long way to go anyway, so I'm reluctant to change what I already have.

I'm not sure if I'm even going to use Callandor or any sword in the portrait (the dragon tattoos were going to be the main focus), but I thought I'd post this test here for funsies.
