Birds of a Feather! Part 8 Test
Y/N stood frozen, her heart pounding in her chest. The masked man had vanished into the shadows, leaving them alone in the dimly lit room. The air felt heavier now, charged with uncertainty.
“What just happened?” Y/N whispered, more to herself than to Test.
Test’s jaw was clenched, his eyes scanning the room where the figure had been. He didn’t move, as if waiting for something else to happen. His grip on his knife remained tight, and the protective stance he’d taken only moments ago didn’t falter.
“I don’t know,” Test said, his voice low, laced with tension. “But whoever that was, they’re not working alone.”
Y/N felt a surge of anger at the man’s cryptic words. “That didn’t answer anything. ‘Fight like you’ve never seen’? Who the hell does he think he is?”
Test met her gaze. His face was unreadable, but his eyes told her everything she needed to know: this was far from over. Whatever was happening, it was bigger than either of them. And now, it had crossed into their world.
“I’m guessing we’re not going to just ignore this,” she said, her voice hardening with determination.
Test shook his head. “No. We can’t. We need answers, and that guy knows more than he’s telling. But we can’t chase him down blindly. We need a plan.”
Y/N ran a hand through her hair, trying to calm her racing thoughts. She hadn’t signed up for any of this—didn’t even know how she’d ended up in this mess—but there was no turning back now.
“I’m done with waiting,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “We need to find the answers now.”
Test studied her for a moment before nodding. “Alright. Let’s get back to the safe house, plan our next move. But you’re right—we’re going to need more than just answers. We need to be prepared for whatever comes next.”
The drive back to the cabin felt even longer than the first. Y/N’s thoughts swirled with questions and suspicions, but she kept quiet, her eyes focused on the road ahead. Test seemed to be in a similar state of silence, his mind likely running through a thousand scenarios, all of them dangerous.
When they reached the cabin, the place felt unnervingly still. They both exited the car, tension thick in the air. Test unlocked the door, and they moved inside, instantly falling into a defensive stance. Neither of them spoke; they both knew what needed to be done.
They didn’t have much time. The man’s cryptic words echoed in Y/N’s head, and the more she thought about them, the more uneasy she felt. A fight was coming, but it wasn’t just a physical one. It was something deeper—something that tied her to this mystery in ways she didn’t yet understand.
As they entered the living room, Test turned to her, his gaze sharp.
“We need to contact my people,” he said quietly. “They’ll have more information on the people we’re dealing with.”
Y/N nodded, though she felt a cold chill wash over her. Who exactly was Test working with? And how deep did this rabbit hole go?
“I’ll stay close,” she said, determined not to be left out of the loop.
Test met her gaze again, and this time, there was something more in his eyes. Something unreadable.
“You’ve already been dragged into this,” he said, his voice softer than before. “I’ll keep you in the loop. But we need to be careful. Whoever is after you—after both of us now—doesn’t play by the rules.”
Y/N felt the weight of those words sink into her bones. She didn’t know if she could trust anyone, but she wasn’t going to let anyone tell her to step back.
