THE JET REPORT'S INTERVIEW WITH VINNY TESTAVERDE
QB Vinny Testaverde spearheaded the late 90's Bill Parcells Jets to the AFC championship in Denver. The Jets led 10-0 in the third quarter only to see hall of famer John Elway lead his troops to a comeback victory. The following year, Super Bowl hopes were high for the Jets, until Vinny shockingly went down in week one with a season ending achilles injury.
We spoke with Testaverde weeks back at the Met Life event in Bryant Park, reporting for PFNYC and FRO, regarding the 1998 season, his incredible success that year, and more.
Vinny has been in the news this week for his leading role in helping to force the NFL to cancel it's post 9-11 schedule. Those 2001 Jets led by Testaverde, were willing to forfeit their week 2 matchup in Foxboro in order to pay homage to the fallen. A move that forced the league's hand into moving week two's matchups to the weekend of January 6-7.
This gave the NFL a chance to make up for it's insensitive choice to continue on with it's Sunday games after the shocking 1963 assasination of President Kennedy. A decision that many NFLer's who played that weekend still view as a mistake. The rival AFL chose NOT to play those games in late November of 1963.
Testaverde played for both the Jets (1998-2003, 2005) AND their week one opponent's the Cowboys (2004) during his incredible twenty one year NFL career.
