The meaning behind each of the chess pieces summarised- spoilers for pink! And if you want to guess dont look!

- the queen is mai - most valuable to his plan , queen is often used to symbolise power and sacrifice (“final sacrifice”)

- knight is yanagi for obvious reasons and also he is facing away from mai reflecting on how he never saw her body

- fallen pawn is kamimura (who else would ken look at?) also the pawns head is out view

- the other pawns are hiroaki and ojima (the isolated one is ojima due to his spacing out) they’re pawns as ken used them for his plan + separated due to fighting

- wada isnt here cause he was isolating himself

- tamba isnt here as her injury preventing her psychically intervening with his plan was out of his control (even though he did write the letters)

- chess board is warped as no matter how much control ken thought he had , it all fell apart

- all pieces are white because they’re innocent (sorry ken)
