I'm anxious. It's a good anxious though.
It's Monday–which means two nights ago, Koutaro Bokuto and I slept together.
I can still feel his wet kiss against my swollen lips, his calloused hands trailing along my skin as he used his tongue to assault my neck. I can feel his much larger body domineering over me as my thick thighs wrap around his torso, the assertiveness of his silvery voice delivering sweet praises into my ear. The sound of him groaning at the touch of my fingers in his hair is still fresh in my mind. And lastly, I still feel the length of him in between my legs.
He completely ripped my body into pieces. It's foolish to say now, but I thought I'd die in his hold. I felt my insides be penetrated by him and cried as my body forcefully opened for him. He cut straight through and left behind a broken me.
He'd ram into my body and smirk at my high-pitched mewls. And when I was inches away from grasping my peak, he'd stop or slow down. He found pleasure in edging me and he loved watching me dismantle before him. He enjoyed watching himself destroy my entire being but he loved rebuilding me even more.
After the storm, he rebuilt me. He picked up the scattered pieces and reconnected them. With each piece, he handled with care like I was an antique glass. He held every part of me delicately as if he hadn't already destroyed me. But he didn't follow my original blueprint. No, he put the pieces back where he saw fit. He rebuilt me to his liking.
His love altered my brain chemistry and I don't think I can ever go back. Bokuto completely eradicated me and replaced me with a new being. I'm on a high just thinking about him.
So yeah, I'm anxious but it's a good anxious.
"Wipe that cheesy smile off your face." Monica looks over at me from the driver's seat. Even though her voice is strict, her smile is bigger than mine.
Mama and Monica drilled into me the next day. Bokuto left lovebites all along my neck and thighs; they saw them immediately after I came in. I didn't even make it through the foyer before they bombarded me with questions. Monica has been with me since I was formed so of course I had no problem sharing with her and Mama doesn't mind us having sex, as long as we're safe.
I just didn't tell them who I slept with. I want it to be a secret for a little while longer. Whatever Bokuto and I have going on feels personal, I don't want anyone to know yet. I only told them he was a fine guy from the party.
"I don't know, I think I'll keep it on," I reply, widening my grin.
Her eyes roll but her smile stays. "Why won't you tell who you slept with?" Her light eyes gleam with curiosity.
"Because it's a secret." I purse my lips and hover my index finger over my mouth.
She pouts, largening her puppy dog eyes. "But I'm dyinggggg to know." She grazes her fingers along my neck. The hickies are still faintly there. "I need to know who marked up like this."
I shrug showing indifference. "You're just going to have to wait a little bit longer."
~~~
My leg won't stop bouncing nor will my heart slow down. My eyes are glued onto the clock above the door. In less than 30 seconds, the bell will ring signaling 2nd period is over. My next class is precalculus, and I have that class with Bokuto.
The final words from my Economics blur and replace with the smokey voice of Bokuto. The precious praises he sang to me that night run rampant in my brain. The scent of cedar and alcohol infiltrates my nostrils as I remember him being pressed against me. The seductive glint from his medallion eyes is all I see.
I wonder if he'll speak to me. I hope he does but I'll be content if he doesn't. It'll be funner if we secretly share glances from across the room. Our eyes would be locked onto each other as we exchange a conversation no one else can decipher. Maybe he'll send me a wink before turning away and smirking–that'll send my heart into overdrive. I clench my thighs hoping he'll raise his eyebrow at me, it's so attractive when he does.
The bell finally rings and I'm the first out the door. My things were already packed and I was at the edge of my seat waiting in anticipation. I never thought I'd skip to my precalculus class; especially since Mrs. Braize is unbearable, yet here I am practically skipping through students. I bite my lip to hold my grin as I do but it's useless. I fill my cheeks with a smile and earn confused stares in reward.
I'm the second person to enter the small classroom. The first one to get here is always Claire Baskely. She has an unusual love for math, calculus specifically. She is a thin girl with short chestnut hair draping around her porcelain skin. Some days she wears her thick black glasses, today she isn't. Her sage eyes beam at me as a smile spreads across her face. Normally, I'd half smile her way but today I return her gesture.
"Good morning, Mrs. Garcia." Mrs. Braize's straight voice greets me. I look at her slender figure and see her sky irises glaring at me. I never give her a smile. She's so far up her own behind that she doesn't deserve it. She pleasures herself by picking on every student in the building. She scolds kids if they stutter over an answer and kicks kids out if she catches them drifting off to sleep. Bokuto has been reprimanded by her plenty of times and I despise her because of it.
Usually, I'd give her a slight nod but I'm in such a good mood that she gets a beaming smile. Her eyes widen at my expression and I turn to walk to my seat.
"Your sister did exceptionally well this morning." Mrs. Braize informs me when I turn my back to her. Monica has the class before me. She's always complaining about getting sent to the office for sleeping.
"Did she?" I act surprised to humor her. "Mama will be happy to hear that."
"I bet she will." The prim teacher says when I take my seat. "I hope you've been encouraging her. You excel in this class and I know she can too."
That's true. Monica is smarter than she claims. She just plays dumb because she surrounded herself with a bunch of idiots. "Yes, she can."
Our short exchange ends when more kids began to pile into her class. My heart reaches my toes as anticipation replaces the blood in my body. The fact that he can enter at any movement makes my palms sweat. I wonder what he's wearing. I'm wearing a black shirt that barely shoes off my midriff with black jogger pants to match. I would throw a hoodie over this but I'll never love my body if I cover it all the time.
Baby steps, I'm taking baby steps.
Three minutes pass but they feel like hours. I knew I'd be waiting until the last moment, Bokuto always steps in as the bell ring. I don't think he's been on time since school started last month. Mrs. Braize scolded him at first but she knows the battles she can and can't win.
My body jolts when the sharp and clear bell fills the classroom. I shift my eyes to the door the second I hear it over the bell. The jovial sound vibrates in my chest drowning out everything around me. It's deep and rich like the soil in the Caribbean, fluid like the waves that crash against the Puerto Rican shore. My breath escapes my throat when I see him step in.
He's dressed in his favorite purple varsity jacket with some washed-out jeans. A gold chain hangs from his neck and a small diamond earring resides in his left ear. His flawless face is consumed with laughter and his eyes are sealed shut. His hair is styled...up. I don't know why that surprises me. He's always worn his mismatched hair up.
He walks in with his friend Mark. Mark is a brunette with an ego as big as the sky. He's on the football team and he's always bragging about he's the best. I can't lie he's playing skills are impeccable but he flaunts it like he'll die if he doesn't. I don't know how Bokuto tolerates him, maybe he's faking it.
"Mark, you're so stupid." Bokuto laughs as he lightly shoves his friend. "We should definitely go see her this weekend."
Mark's face turns red with amusement as he agrees. "She'll love that too. She won't be able to keep her hands off of you."
I have no idea who they're talking about. All I know is that anger flashes through my veins at the thought of another girl laying a finger on Bokuto. Bokuto and I obviously aren't dating but something definitely sparked between us the night we slept together. The chance of something beautiful blossoming between is high and I don't want anything to jeopardize that. Or anyone.
Mrs. Braize's keen eyes scowl at them. "Boys, to your seats!" She barks before turning back to the board. The boys stifle their laughs and walk to their assigned seats. They sat together when the year started but Mrs. Braize was quick to separate them when they kept being disruptive.
My seat is in the middle near the window. Mark's in the front and Bokuto's is two rows to my left in the back. I want him to notice me so I straighten my back and heighten my shoulders. I hold my head up as I keep my eyes steady on him as he strides to his desk. My heart palpitates when his eyes flicker to me but instead of grinning like I planned to do, I frown.
His eyes are the same angular shape, the same deep gold color they've always been but they're different. Completely different than the eyes I gazed into Friday night. His eyes are a mixture of amusement, pride, and vacuousness. It's a distinct contrast from the intense, angry, and dark eyes I saw before. It doesn't even feel like the same person. It's as if the Bokuto on Friday has disappeared. And so have the feelings I had for him.
But that can't be right. I've known this Bokuto since middle school. I've always had strong feelings for him, they can't just disappear because I saw him in a different light for one night. But, when I look at the boy that has hair pointed to the ceiling, I don't feel the same as I did for the boy whose hair stuck to his forehead Friday night. I look at him and feel nothing.
As I'm battling confusion in my brain, Bokuto's eyes briefly study me. They widen slightly and confusion flashes through them. His eyebrows do raise but not in the attractive way I was hoping for. He genuinely looks lost when he looks at me. But that confusion disappears the second it appears. He shrugs carelessly as if I never existed to him.
"Vero."
Monica snaps for my attention for the third time in five minutes. I guide my eyes to her and tilt my head. "Yes?"
Her lips deepen into a frown. "What's wrong?" She reaches across the table and holds my hand. "You've barely eaten your lunch and it's your favorite."
Mama randomly decided to cook Puerto Rico's national dish over the weekend, Arroz con Gandules. I've loved it ever since I was little. I'd clean the plate whenever it was made but today I can barely swallow it. My mouth tastes like copper and I don't want to risk eating and throwing up.
"I'm not hungry." I reply flatly. That's the honest truth. After this morning, I've lost my appetite completely.
Monica narrows her eyes at me. "Yeah, right. You could eat a cow and still go for seconds." I smile but it drops when my eyes catch Bokuto with his friends in my peripheral. Anger shoots through my blood when I do. He's laughing and carrying on like nothing has changed between us. He's ignoring me like those praises he whispered to me are meaningless. Like I'm meaningless.
"I'm fine, Moni." I huff out trying to suppress my anger. Not buying my terrible act, she furrows her eyebrows. Before she can speak, a voice interrupts her.
"Veronica?"
Monica and I turn our heads synchronously to see Maya and Gabby approaching our table.
Gabby's round eyes widen with surprise before she smiles softly. "Wow, you two really are in sync." She giggles.
Gabby is really beautiful when she isn't intoxicated. Her authentic delicate features are such a contrast to the distasteful acts she commits with her boyfriend. She has a soft doll aura and her outfit displays that. Her voluminous afro crowns her head accenting her pastel purple blouse and light blue bell-bottom jeans. You'd never guess she runs the streets when night falls.
Maya looks the opposite of Gabby but they both share an intimidating aroma. The light bounces off Maya's gloss lips and her black glasses rest perfectly on her round face. Her clothes hug her thick hourglass body and her high heels elevate her stance. She too is beautiful when she's not intoxicated.
"Hey, you two." Monica greets the newcomers. I don't know how she isn't tensing by their gazes. Maybe that's because their gaze isn't on her but on me.
Maya reaches into her back pocket and pulls out a small beige keychain with a soft teddy bear and a rose to match. She holds it to me waiting for me to accept it. Narrowing my eyes at the chain I look at her with my eyebrows raised.
She sighs before looking at her counterpart. "You know I'm not good at this."
Gabby understands, looks at me, and dips her head. "We're sorry about Friday. Us being intoxicated isn't an excuse for laughing at you like that."
Maya nods and bows her head also. "Yeah. It was stupid of us. Stupid of Sugawara too. He's sorry too but he's too much of a pussy to come and apologize."
Gabby hums. "He bought the keychain though. I know money and gifts can't buy forgiveness but we hope this is a start."
I'm stunned. I thought they were too intoxicated to remember anything. I soften my gaze at them. I've always found them intimidating and looked down on their poor life choices but they didn't have to apologize to me. They could have just forgotten about it, instead, they're expressing their deepest apologies with a cute gift.
I glance at Monica whose eyes are squinting and eyebrows pinched together. I never told her about my exchange with her group of friends, I didn't want her to pity me.
I flash a small smile at the girls while I accept their gift. "Thank you. I really appreciate it. Tell Sugawara that I forgive him and I'm not mad."
Relief replaces their anxious eyes. Gabby's round brown cheeks fill with a smile making her dimples pop out. "Yay!" She cheers, leans in, and wraps her arms around me. She pulls me into a tight and her jasmine scent tickles my nose.
"I hope we can be friends." She wishes when she pulls away. "Especially if you start going out with Bokuto."
"¿Qué?" Monica's eyes largen and her mouth hangs open as she comes to a realization. Looks like the cat is out of the bag.
"You slept with Bokuto!?" She whisper-screeches. I know she wants to holler out the news but is conscious that Bokuto is in the vicinity.
"Did you actually sleep with him?" Maya pulls out a chair next to me and plops down. "I saw you two leave but I didn't know where you guys were going."
Gabby takes a seat next to Monica. "Yeah, Tetsu refreshed my memory in the morning. Bokuto was really going to lay into Suga." She chuckles. "Bout time, Suga has been more aggressive recently." She gives Maya a knowing look.
Maya shrugs and defends her boyfriend. "His house is in turmoil, I'd be lashing out too."
"Wait, wait." Monica scrunches her face and waves her hand in the air. "Can someone please tell me what happened? Specifically you." She points her acrylic nail at me. I let out a defeated sigh. I want to hold onto the truth just a little longer but when I glance at Bokuto, I wonder why I'm holding onto the truth so tightly.
I don't want to accept the idea of Bokuto just using me, I don't want to be a fling that he forgets about the next morning. I want to be more than just a body he pressed himself into. I want to be the prize he claims proudly, I want to be the sea he chooses to drown in–I want to be his one and only. But his reaction to me this morning tells me that isn't going to happen.
All I am to him now is the girl that he's forgotten.
