* Seconding what Padrig said. Giving reassurance when it’s needed is one of my favorite things to do. It makes me feel useful... like my friends actually benefit from having me around, which in turn makes me feel like being nicer to myself.

* But it can hurt when someone I care about implies that no one cares about them because... y’know, it’s hard not to take that a little personally. Like, I know that I care. I try to show it, but if someone I’d go out of my way to help out of a dark place would sooner assume that I don’t care than let me know that they need me... what am I even good for? Or am I just being taken for granted?

* I don’t really believe that anyone is defined by how useful they can be to others, but feelings aren’t always rational. Sure you know that from experience, or this conversation wouldn’t be happening. We, people who know how this feels, gotta stick together and help each other out. * My point is... asking for what you need from your friends can be hard, but it’ll definitely be worth it in the end to try. If anyone says “no I don’t care”, is that really the kinda person you wanna be friends with anyway? I know I’d rather know who doesn’t care so I can take out the garbage, and the friends who do care will always want to be there for you.

* Because you’re not annoying or a burden or anything like that.
