Personal guard of the Prince
Headcanon 1: Javert was not always a holy man. When he was originally a guard in the town of Lutecia, he did what many of the guards would do - have sex with any willing townsperson. It was all fun and games until one day while he was securing the forests surrounding the town, he stumbled upon the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Leanna was a fairy - a magical creature with whom humans surely were not to interact; however, that certainly didn't stop Javert from falling for her and ultimately making love to her.
Roughly nine months later, Leanna gave birth to a son - the King's son. Leanna had been serving as a mistress to the King since long before her and Javert ever met. Still, the King now had a son - a son who happened to be half fairy. If anyone were to find out that the King were not loyal to the Queen and that the Prince was not human, the Kingdom would erupt into chaos; therefore, the King ordered for Leanna to be killed.
It couldn't happen. He wouldn't let it happen. Javert wanted to save Leanna. One day he ventured out into the woods to find an infamous witch who was willing to make deals and performs acts against the King's Court. He wished for her to save Leanna - to do whatever it took to save the fairy from the King's blade. The witch had a spell that would allow Leanna to shift her appearance and remain hidden... but there was a price. The price Javert would have to pay in order to save Leanna was his memories of her. She would be granted the ability to shift her form, but Javert would no longer recall any memories of a fairy named Leanna. He agreed. He said he would do whatever it would take.
His memories of the mystical creature were erased, and Leanna escaped the King's sentence. The sudden absence of a love interest in his life allowed him to focus on his work, rising through the ranks and eventually being assigned to serve as the personal guard of the Prince. It was over these years that Javert was drawn to the church.
Headcanon 2: Javert's first run-in with Jeanne happened during his time as a guard in Lutecia. All he saw was a blast of some sort of magic promptly followed by cries and screams of pain. He and a fellow guard rushed to the area just in time to see the witch fleeing the scene. A helpless woman had been injured by Jeanne's magic - that alone was reason enough for her to be beheaded. Luckily, she was caught before she was able to escape into the forest.
She was supposed to be briefly detained in prison before her execution. Javert was assigned to keep an eye on her and make sure she didn't try to escape; however, he was no match for her magic, and Jeanne finally managed to escape.
Javert demanded to be placed in the group going out into the forest to search for the escaped prisoner. His wish was granted, and he and an army of men went out into the woods in an attempt to find Jeanne. Surprisingly enough, Javert was successful. He found the witch and was able to chase her until she was up against a rock wall. Just when he thought he had her captured, a blast of magic from the witch knocked him out, allowing her to escape once more.
Through hard work and personal endeavors, Javert was able to redeem himself and fly through the ranks. When he was assigned to be the personal guard of the Prince, he heard a rumor that Jeanne was living somewhere near the Palace. In his mind, a witch as dangerous as her should be no where near the boy he was in charge of protecting. He remains on high-alert for any sightings of the infamous woman.
