So the Red!spy is the father of the Red!scout? And here I thought the Red!spy was the father of the Blu!scout?

I could go on and on about different theories I have on this, but I don’t wanna bore people. 

Basically the history as I know it was that dad!Spy started as a small joke based on the Meet the Spy SFM. Then it became canon that RED Spy was involved with BLU Scout’s mom, and the voice line “Well, off to see your mother!” followed. As time went on, many people developed a fanon that BLU Scout was actually RED Spy’s son. 

Apparently Valve has actually said before that comicverse and gameverse aren’t really the same canon, so as far as the comics go, one can assume that it’s just RED team. I think Expiration Date was going more that way too. This kind of explains why everyone is freaking out about Engie being BLU in the comic (and then RED, and then BLU again). Presumably Engie was made BLU to make things work with Loose Canon*, but then…

Well then there’s the antics of BLU in A Smissmass Story being mentioned by the RED team as something that happened to them. 

Now in my fanfics I use a “BLU team are clones” scenario, but most people prefer to think they’re different people entirely. It’s sort of a hot mess, you know? I don’t think they ever planned for their plot to have this much of an impact on the fans and now they’re trying to sort it out and make it work the best they can.

*But you know what no one ever points out? That title is a double-meaning. It’s spelled canon, not cannon.

So basically, one could interpret that as the entire TF2 canon is ‘loose’, ie relaxed and open to a lot of interpretation.

Sorry this still got really long after all but basically I think it’s safe to consider it all as a bit interchangeable, and with TF2 having been around as long as it has, everyone can still hang on to their own fanon. There’s too many possibilities.
