hey— remember the merc playlist series I’ve been doing? paused for a minute so I could catch up on making those actual playlists for you! I’ll update this post each time I finish each one (finish is a strong word, I’m always adding new songs <3)
and if you don’t have Spotify I am working on the YouTube versions
do you have any music recommendations that remind you of Spy? I have a playlist for every tf2 merc + pauling but my Spy one is looking empty and it makes me sad
Usually, I listen to one song on repeat for a month until I have another song to get attached to. However, this made me feel creative and I did some searching...
At first, "Porque te vas" by Jeanette came to mind. To get specific here, there's also a French version.
It's about the singer's partner leaving her. The song literally translates to "Because you are leaving" in Spanish. I can see this apply to Spy's relationship with Scout's Ma, with the vocalist being the perspective of Scout's Ma. This song's more on the serious side versus something that plays into the James Bond parody Spy is. However, the instrumentals are great and you might have heard the song within animations!
Essentially, this doesn't have to exactly be about Spyma. Just moreso plays into the character of how Spy, despite haven grown close relationships in the past, was too cowardly to own up to his responsibilities, and left. However, in the process, he hurt the person he once held so dear.
"Taking What's Not Yours" by TV Girl
This song is about the conflicting feelings the singer has about their ex-partner that, after their separation, the ex left their belongings in the singer's apartment, and took things of the singer's. The vocalist refers to the ex as a "her", however I can see Spy as this "her" that left cigarettes, a lighter, and a book at his ex's apartment. My mind immediately travels to Spyma for this, but I can leave this open-ended.
Also, the name "Taking What's Not Yours" in a literal sense relates to Spy heavily already, considering he's noteworthy for stealing intelligence, and others' identities.
"Je suis fatigué" by Tom Cardy
This song is very lighthearted in comparison to the earlier ones. It's about a time where the musician, Tom Cardy, had an encounter with a French person demanding that he spoke French because she was too tired to translate. There's even videos featuring Spy and this song, LOL.
