Day 12 (Yesterday): Favorite Sad Moment

Man, Jeffery Combs did such an amazing job portraying the fact that Ratchet is absolutely devastated at the loss of the Omega Lock. I tear up almost every time I hear the ongoing joke -- “I needed that!” -- turned into this trembly, heartfelt plea. “We needed that...” It’s so simple but so powerful -- not to mention his face. He can’t even begin to process the hopelessness he feels now; he feels like he’s been betrayed by his best friend and he feels completely isolated from everything he’s ever known. Just... this scene, dang it, this scene. </3

Day 13: Favorite OTP or BROTP 

Well, given how upset I get when I see the scene above, you can probably guess that my favorite relationship on the show, period, is Optimus/Ratchet. I know a lot of people ship them romantically, but I feel that they have something both intimate and platonic. Yes, there can be both. Smut is not the only kind of intimacy and these two know it well. They’re so gentle and knowing with each other. They have something special, something the others don’t quite understand, despite being close to both of them. 

Optimus and Ratchet hold each other up; it’s quite clear that without each other, they start to crack under the strain and burdens of their roles. Optimus needs the treatment Ratchet provides: the care, the protective backup, the listening ear, and yes, even powerful leaders need to be chastised and advised. Ratchet doesn’t need treatment; he simply needs Optimus: the mech who can pull him out of wrenching homesickness and the anger and stress of his work, who can gentle him when he finds himself getting lost in the bitterness of so much war. 

They’re entwined. They love and complete each other, not romantically, but by simply being the things they know the other can’t. Ratchet reminds Optimus of what they’re really fighting for. Optimus reminds Ratchet how to fight.

Day 3 of the TFP 15 Day Challenge: Favorite Autobot

What drew me to Ratchet? In the beginning, I’d say I was drawn to his design; it has that uniqueness among the aesthetic of the others: different color, different shape, etc. Then I came to love his personality; we all know that behind his keen wit, he cares so deeply about everyone on his team. He became my favorite character as soon as he started having more frequent interactions with Optimus, because I saw how much depth Ratchet had. He feels like a very real character; he aches, he agonizes, he just cares so much and feels so helpless to act on it. At times he feels like he’s just part of a cause and effect: someone gets hurt, he heals the hurt. That’s his job and sometimes he just gets lost in it. Fortunately Optimus, who is a very close second for the title of favorite character, is so entwined with Ratchet that he knows exactly which lines to cross to bring him back, to keep him going. It’s beautiful.

For the TFP 15 Day Challenge (Hey, I may be one day late, but I’m still participating!) The topic was the first TFP episode I ever watched and it’s all thanks to this red bot that I’m a fan of Transformers Prime. A family member started watching it on Netflix and I happened to arrive just as Cliffjumper did. His death affected me even though I barely knew him because I’m a softie.

Day 4 of the TFP 15 Day Challenge: Favorite Decepticon

I doubt this was much of a surprise, given how many I’ve reblogged more pictures of Soundwave than of any other Cons and that I went to the trouble of cosplaying him! So what drew me to him? I often find myself drawn to characters who aren’t as prominent, the characters behind the scenes. That is the definition of Soundwave, no matter which incarnation! He’s the mech behind the curtain, the one who protects Megatron’s rule with his entire mind and strength and from what I’ve seen, he always has been. That fight with Airachnid over loyalty to Megatron is easily one of my favorite fights on the entire show; it was a privilege to watch. Not only does he have a beautifully complex design (this coming from someone who has examined every freaking inch of it), he’s the Decepticon I really identify with. He’s quieter, creative, loyal, strives for perfection in everything he does, picks up on things others miss. Somehow he manages to be both unassuming and entirely distinctive. To be brutally honest, he is the only Decepticon to this day who has managed not to make me angry. Not even once. He’s so methodical and sure of himself that I can’t help but root for him too.

Day 6 of the TFP 15 Challenge: Favorite Prime Music

For me, nothing beats the Seasons 1-2 theme song! It just feels so grand. Watching the characters stand up in the darkness against their opposition is enough to make me a little chilly and inspire me and then when the music turns cold and Megatron strolls out, casually beating his enemies down, it’s time to take it seriously. (Really, my only complaint is OP and Megs’ punching at the end; it was poorly aimed on both sides XD)
