Rescue Bots Academy gets so much funnier when you remember that Heatwave never chose to be a teacher

I know this is gonna be a long post, and I’m so sorry. But I kept getting ticked off and needed to tell someone who would listen about this.  So, i’m reading a fantastic 2020 rescue november on a03. (I’ll dm you the author if anyone wants it.) and there’s a bladewave carrying fic in it. The premise of it is that Blades wants time-off because his sparkling is gonna come soon and Heatwave finds out about it that way and gets so happy that they’re gonna be a family. It’s all cute fluff right? My stupid ass thought that Heatwave was the one carrying, and then I realized it was blades. Not heatwave. I have read way too many rescue bots/rescue bots academy fanfiction, and I have noticed a pattern. When there is the term carrying involved, the authors (no shade to them some of the fics are amazing.) always pin the role of ‘carrier’ to the cuter smaller bot, not the ‘big strong brave mech’. It happens everytime. Now I ranted to my friend on discord about it (here’s the screenshot)

My point is, I’m plain tired of the ‘big stronger brave mech’ never carrying. The possibilities, the situations. It would be amazing, but alias they always pick Blades, or chase, and I have only seen one of these; Quickshadow.   C’mon. Put the role of carrying on heatwave, or boulder. Don’t be a coward.  Give heatwave carrying roles. me, oh I always pictured him a mother hen to the recruits, it makes perfect sense. heatwave is the one that is around them the most, it’s adorable. Most would describe him as a dad. Unpopular opinion but I see him as the overprotective mother hen that would protect his kids with his spark.  Part 2 here Ok thanks for coming to my tedtalk, if you wanna keep this going feel free to reblog and all that jazz, i’m making a new tag for things like this. I tried drawing both the RB and RBA version of him so I could get a handle on his design

I’m trying to make my own designs for the Rescue Bots that take inspiration from RB, RBA, and TFP but so far I only have two done.

Now the precious cinnamon roll boi <3

Doing the same thing I was doing with Heatwave except RB!Blades gave me a hug and RBA!Blades stole my fucking knees

Now some High Tides! I’ve been working on his design for shitpost reasons and I never realized how sharklike he is

And to finish off this week, yet another Megatron! But this time he’s in his Predacons Rising form

Ngl, I don't really think Heatwave is that OOC in RBA. It's already established in TFRB that, while he doesn't care for young kids, he isn't outwardly antagonistic for them and, despite not liking YOUNG kids, he's good with them when they're a bit older (like with Frankie and Cody). He's only outwardly a hothead to those who are the same rank/age or above him while being more patient with kids.

Even then, he still shows his hotheadedness with the RBA kids. It's not like he's suddenly completely nice and whatnot. He's just patient with them bcuz they're learning and he isn't going to be outwardly mean to kids.

I think it's just the redesign which pisses people off which- fair. Like, if it was it's own continuity it'd be fine, but we all got so attached to the designs in TFRB that we all just went "😕" when we saw the RBA designs.

Check out part 1 here So, everyone who commented on part 1 agrees that the ‘big strong brave’ mech should get the role of carrying. But, I realized something. Let’s take a look at for example; Tidalwave (HighTide x Heatwave) Heatwave in that case would be ‘cute smol bean’ mech, as I’ve seen with some fics. HighTide would be fantastic but I have also realized something else. What if, oh I don’t know. Cybertronians could willingly switch the sire and carrier roles whenever they wanted. For example; One bot might be the carrier for the first sparkling and for the next one, their partner is the carrier. It would make sense as gender to cybertronian isn’t a big deal, carrying probably wouldn’t be either. This brings me to another point; The ‘smol cute bean’ mech being carrier as it’s a better choice for the sparklings wellbeing. 

Should the ‘smol bean cutie pie’ mech be the only choice in terms of carrying in fanfiction? 

No! As I mentioned in part 1, it would the perfect chance to slide in plot points such as; “Why did the ‘big strong brave” mech be chosen as the carrier in the first place?’ what if, the ‘smol cute bean’ mech wasn’t able to carry a sparkling due to there frame-type. if the ‘smol cute bean’ mech was to carry the bitlet in that case, during forging the ‘smol cute bean’ mech’s body wouldn’t be able to handle it and they would offline during child-birth. The ‘big strong brave mech’ would be able to handle much easier, as they have a bigger frame. Or another plot point you could put in a fic like that; “How would the ‘big strong brave’ mech’s family/friends react to the carrying cycle?” I imagine that it would be somewhat taboo, as the ‘big strong brave’ mechs were usually out fighting and the smaller mechs would be the one to take care of the sparklings. It would be breaking the cybertronian stereotype of ‘the smaller mechs have to carry’ or “How would the ‘smol cute bean’ mech take care of the carrying ‘big strong brave’ mech?” That on the other servo, would be a perfect chance to slide in some fluff, the smaller mech doing there best to take care of the bigger one, spoiling them with energon goodies and providing cuddles when needed or wanted. Helping them but also giving them space. 

Conclusion

Let the ‘big brave strong’ mech carry in your fics once in awhile, it’s the perfect to add plotpoints and add more personality to your fanfiction and characters. That doesn’t mean I'm telling you that the ‘smol bean cutie pie’ mech shouldn’t be carrying at all, it just adds variety in the big wide world of fanfiction if the bigger mech gets to carry.  Once again, thanks for coming to my tedtalk.
