I think Kaneki's abuse from his mom was hinted during the last chapter in Tokyo Ghoul. When white kaneki was talking to black kaneki, he asked if he "liked mom" and black kaneki scratched his chin when he said yes. I wasnt sure if it was a trait Kaneki did when he lied.

Yes, it’s been pointed out already by other bloggers ;_; It’s just that when we first read it we assumed he meant that he was lonely, when in reality it was so much worse.
