the discourse about the latest kinioto chapter “pandering to the fans too much” is revealing the illiteracy of some of the newer fans (perhaps some older but I’m mostly seeing the criticism from post mitsuaya kiss fans).

yes the sex scene was perhaps slightly a fan service as you might like to call it, sumiko arai has a manga she needs to sell. she makes money from this, giving the fans what they want is beneficial to her.

but she is in no way sacrificing the story in my opinion. it’s characteristic of Mitsuki from the very beginning to avoid speaking about her issues with a multitude of distractions. in the early chapters this was her music, she would isolate herself with her guitar to avoid having conversations about the future, her feelings towards Aya, the relationship between Joe and Kanna, etc. now in the grown up timeline this has taken other forms. Her avoidance has turned into indulging Aya. distracting Aya by performing acts of service towards her or engaging her in intimacy so Aya can’t ask the uncomfortable questions Mitsuki doesn’t want to answer.

yess, it’s unhealthy for them both. that’s the point, that’s the storyline. this chapter has more nuance than some of you know. ifyou still don’t like it much, that’s your opinion! all I’m pointing out here is that a lot of recent criticisms towards kinioto and sumiko tend to arise out of a misunderstanding of the works deeper contextual meaning.

but then again, this is just my own interpretation and opinion… >_<
