#89: Thalassea- This territorial Pokémon is known as a menace among sailors. Its mischievous behaviors turn downright sinister when it senses a boat on its territory using its very powerful echolocation. Thalassea can produce massive waves by slapping its tail against the water and tangles up boat propellers with the unusually strong seaweed that grows on its head and tail. It is the root of many different myths, such as rumors of sirens and massive, 100-foot long Pokémon that eat boats. Thalassea is an uncommon Pokémon because sailors tend to kill it in their fear. To catch prey, Thalassea ensnares other Pokémon and even people in kelp and drags them down into the ocean to drown, but it actually behaves kindly towards water-type Pokémon. It schools in pods of up to fifty members that dart around kelp forests and swarm invaders or prey. (Name from “Thalassophobia”, the fear of the ocean, and “sea”)
