I promise this is nice. Body swap between todoroki and Midoriya :)))
THANK YOU! See, isn’t it nice to ask for something that isn’t angsty to hell and back? xD Love you, hope you enjoy this lol
Theycrashed into each other when the villain threw Izuku against Shouto, fallingdown to the ground in a flurry of limbs and rolling away from each other, headsspinning for the longest time as they jumped back to their feet and faced himagain. Izuku called upon the power of One for All and… And nothing happened.
“Huh?”The surprised noise came out much deeper than he was used to and he cleared histhroat, not really knowing why his voice was suddenly so different yet sofamiliar. With a cackle, their foe turned and started to run.
Heturned to his side, to Shouto, a surge of panic coursing through his veins whenhe saw himself standing there instead, his eyes widening at the look of confusionon his face as he stared at his own hands.Looking down, a high-pitched screech left him, or rather, left Shouto? Hetouched his face, his fingers coming into contact with scarred skin over hisleft eye, and Izuku shrieked again, the noise so uncharacteristic in Shouto’svoice that it only made him want to scream more.
This is bad, this is bad, this is bad.
“Midoriya.”Izuku turns to himself, the image still giving him whiplash, the entirelyneutral expression on his face looking so incredibly out of place that he wantedto wipe it off. “This isn’t ideal, but we have to stop that villain before hecan cause any more trouble.”
Izukunodded, trying to wrap his head around the situation. This wasn’t the weirdestthing to happen to him. He ate All Might’s hair, this didn’t even begin toreach that level of weird. Although, when thathappened, it took him almost one entire semester to manage to use that quirkwithout breaking all of his bones. And now he was supposed to learn how tocontrol Shouto’s in the span of a few seconds, preferably.
This is bad.
“Myquirk isn’t that hard to use, just use your instincts.” Shouto told him, already starting after the villain and calling the incident in to requestback-up.
Witha quick shake of his head, Izuku began running too, following Shouto in hisbody and trying to conjure a flame or some ice on the palms of his hands as hedid, noting that nothing was really happening. It might be easy for Shouto, whohad been using his quirk for all of his life, but using his instincts wasn’treally working for Izuku. He had to understand One for All’s energy output tobe able to control it, how was he supposed to just know what using fire and icewas like?! That wasn’t something he could pretend to be familiar with! He couldat least thank the gods that he didn’t have to learn how to walk in Shouto’sbody all over again, that would’ve been extremely awkward… And the fact that henearly tripped as soon as that thought crossed his mind was in no way ironic.
Theireyes laid on the villain a little ways ahead and Izuku shot Shouto’s, well, hisright hand forward, trying to send some ice flying his way, and managing tolook like he was reaching uselessly for him. Great. Attempting to use the leftone now, Izuku’s focused on willing his body temperature to rise, thinking thatmaybe the ‘egg in the microwave’ analogy type of approach might be useful inthis instance as well, and picturing a flickering candle.
Thatseemed to work… If his objective was to set himself on fire, that is. His wholearm lit up like the fourth of July, bright and very hot and not at all shooting forward, or sideways, or anywhereat all, simply sticking to him and his clothes and making him wave his armsdesperately to put it out. The longer he flailed, however, the larger the flamegot, and Izuku let out a desperate whine as Shouto stopped running and turnedback to him with what he might have identified as concern if he wasn’t too busytrying not to become a human half torch.
This is bad.
Itwas a good thing that Shouto’s hero suit was completely fireproof, otherwisehe’d surely be standing in scorched clothes, if not literally half naked atthis point. His survival instinct kicking in, Izuku dropped and rolled on theground, accomplishing a whole lot of nothing but making a fool out of himself. In his desperate attempts to bring his body temperature down, to finally killthe blazing inferno that had become his left side, Izuku finally managed toactivate the icy side of Shouto’s quirk. Ice spread on the road around him asShouto was running to his aid, causing him to slip on it now that he didn’thave his spiked boots but rather Izuku’s own structured leg supports andfalling back hard on his rear with an undignified grunt.
Thatwas going to hurt in the morning. Assuming he’d be in his body by then. For the love of all that is holy, let thisquirk be of short effect.
Atthis point, they saw Katsuki fly past them, explosions blasting behind him thatdidn’t even come close to his guffaws in terms of volume. Izuku wanted to crawlinto a hole and die of embarrassment, the physical reaction induced by hisshame making the flames on his left even larger and getting dangerously closeto Shouto. He crawled away, eyes wide and mouth agape, a look that Izuku wasmuch more familiar with being on his face at the very least.
“Midoriya, reel the flames in!” He heard his own voice shout back at him, alarm evidentand Izuku whined miserably.
“I’mtrying!” And failing miserably, if the renewed flare was any indication.
Think cold thoughts, snow, ice, the Himalayas, the Swiss Alps, Antarctica!
Theice around him grew, but the fire finally died down and Izuku sighed in relief. That feeling was short-lived when the temperature just kept droppingdrastically, and soon he was shivering uncontrollably, large chunks of frostcovering his right side and stinging his skin painfully. He momentarilywondered how in heavens Shouto ever kept his body from freezing or overheating. All those years of jotting down careful and detailed notes on his classmates’quirks suddenly seemed completely useless, now that he was faced with trying touse one of them and being just as at a loss as if he was a four-year-old manifestinghis quirk for the first time. And somehow still managing to be way more incompetentat doing so than any other toddler. He was supposed to be a pro-hero forgoodness’ sake.
Tremblingstill, Izuku rubbed at his arms to create some sort of warmth from thefriction, trying to will his temperature to raise back up to reasonable levelsbut afraid of setting himself on fire again. Not even the device Shouto had incorporatedinto his costume seemed to be enough to catch up to his fluctuations in orderto regulate it.
Shoutolooked just as helpless as he did, not even attempting to use his quirk becausehe knew very well he’d break Izuku’s body if he did so. He tried to guide himthrough getting back to normal levels of body warmth but Izuku only seemed togo to the extremes, the sweet spot in between a seemingly mystical sixthdimension that he had no clue how to get to.
Itseemed like an eternity until he got it right and stopped going from hell’sblaze to death’s icy embrace in the span of three seconds. He counted. They’dboth decided to keep out of the way of the other heroes, figuring they’d domore harm than good, waiting patiently until support got there and laid a blanketover Izuku’s hunched shoulders.
WhenKatsuki returned, the villain being dragged behind him unconscious, he wasstill laughing at their misery. Well, mostly Izuku’s, even if he was in Shouto’sbody. Somehow, Izuku thought that only made it better for him, that he could mockthem both while only looking at one.
Thevillain was questioned on his quirk’s specifications as they waited in the agency’slobby, Izuku with his head in his hands, trying not to cringe so hard he mightstrain one of Shouto’s muscles while the other was simply dozing off on theseat next to his. Katsuki was dealing with paperwork off in the room next towhere they were, occasionally breaking into a howl that made Izuku groan allover again.
Theeffects wore off during the night and they each woke up back in their respectivebodies, thankfully. But for the rest of the year, he couldn’t see his childhoodfriend without him asking what it was like to be inside Shouto.
