In honour of Mothers' Day tomorrow, what's Quil's & Endra's relationship like with their mothers? Do they bond Iver it? Does their mothers' life experiences leave an impact on their own? What about their mothers do they love, hate, and are frustrated by? 👀
hii Tate, thanks for the ask <33
owhh, well, that's actually something that's pretty important to the story... to keep it short, both of their relationships to their mothers aren't. ideal?? from Quil's side, all was well, actually, until it wasn't. the two of them were very close, and his mother absolutely adored him (still does). he cares for her a lot, too, and she's been someone he'd try to please from a very young age. it all started to turn sour well before the Incident, but after that things got...really tough for both of them. hard to keep up a positive relationship in such conditions ahaha.
in terms of life experiences, I wouldn't say it had much of an impact on him—or, well, the experiences that were connected with him did but that's a whole other story lol. there aren't really any things Quil hates that his mother does, but there's some he's frustrated by, more prominently how much she values his life. it sounds silly, but! he's a silly guy haha :) her general overprotectiveness had at times bothered him, too. he does love—or, rather, admire—her drive and stubbornness, and how she'll always stand for what she believes in. she's not one to ever fold or give in to pressure, and it's something he himself has really internalized.
Endra, on the other hand... oh, his relationship with Leanda is rough. and always had been x)) she's not a particularly gentle mother and doesn't ever sugarcoat things, which,, isn't always a great thing with small children?? he'd always felt like she was looking down on him for not being like her, and that was a pretty fertile ground for resentment. she's insanely overprotective, too, without really explaining her reasoning, which frustrated Endra to no end. to him, it read like possessiveness, which had turned suffocating real quick. in short, it was stranger for them to have a normal conversation than to argue lol
her life experiences, however, have had a big impact on his life, whether he realizes it or not. it shaped how she approached raising him and what ideas he put in his head, which he often finds thinking about even after he's no longer with her. and oh, there are many things she does that he hates or is frustrated by lol. to name a few examples, her overprotectiveness, of course, and the lengths she goes to for it. how controlling she can be, not only of him but of others. how unyielding she can be, too, and how much she believes her word must always be final. I could go on and on lol. and in terms of what he loves about her...I really wouldn't use the word 'love' haha, but I guess he can appreciate her determination to keep her people safe. he comes to appreciate other things, too, down the line :vv
and no, they do not bond over it because neither wants to talk about it LOL
