Tbh it wasn't until discussing with Lou today that I realized how afraid of Leliana Inara actually is. Like during Origins she tried very hard not to recruit her bc their meeting unsettled her, but they did become friends eventually.
Inara was always closer to Morrigan, though, while Wynne and Leliana seemed to bond more that way.
Inara's fear/hatred of the Chantry and being judged more or less kept them at arm's length. After Origins, they don't really talk. Then she finds out Leliana is the Left Hand of the Divine and she's like uhhhh. OK.
Then the Chantry starts sending assassins after her and you would think maybe Inara would turn to Leliana for some help, but she doesn't. Because in truth she doesn't see Leliana as any less Orlesian - and thus tied to the Game - than say, Celene. They're old friends, sure. But that means about as much as the King of Ferelden being an "old friend". Some ghosts just haunt.
