High & Low Feedback Results
Thanks to everyone who filled out the form! I enjoyed reading what you had to say, and figured I might as well unpack some of the responses. We had 11 of them total, which is honestly more than I was anticipating, so again, thanks.
Firstly, our favorite members of the gang?
This surprised me a bit. I love Ro, but I thought Haseya or Marshall would've had her beat for sure. Maybe it was because she was in two posts right before I released the form? Either way, I'm happy she's getting the love. Our girl Haseya came in second, and behind her the infamous Marshall. No votes for Ash, but I expected that. He doesn't really have a storyline apart from the main one.
Next up, our favorite side characters...
People really, really like Lee. Which is fair. Johona also got some well-deserved love. Definitely think the parents are in a better position to have fleshed-out backgrounds and be included in posts more often. Since the story is almost entirely written from the POVs of the gang, it wouldn't make sense if the Mayor or town's lead detective was showing up all the time.
As far as types of posts go, the majority of you said that your favorite types were:
Those which progress the central storyline of the alien and Lena's disappearance
Those which focus on individual characters, their relationships with each other, and how they develop
Those which act as little vignettes or throwaways for the sake of levity
Now we'll move onto which of the High & Low characters you found the most attractive. Just because these are the things we're helpless but to think about sometimes.
Again. People really like Lee.
The last bit of the form was a text box where you could type your thoughts in regard to the story. Some of you wrote some very nice things, and I kept going back and reading the responses because they made me feel so good.
A few of you said you were happy that characters like Ro and Martin were getting more exposure. High & Low can definitely feel like the Haseya & Marshall Show sometimes (which makes sense since they're probably the two most integral characters), but I've been trying to give others some more screentime.
One thing I thought was interesting was how many of you identified with Johona and her narcolepsy. I was really happy to hear this. A while back, part of me worried that I wasn't giving her condition enough attention and it'd seem like I included it in the story "just because". However, I don't think disorders or disabilities define who we are as people, and Johona shouldn't be an exception. Your messages which recognized and resonated with this meant a lot to me. One of you also wondered if she was experiencing some form of depression as well. I've never canonically acknowledged it, but as someone who's struggled with it myself I do think I inject some of those thoughts and behaviors into Johona when I'm writing her.
That's about it. I so, so appreciated reading everything you guys wrote for me. I have the rest of the story written out and I'm trying to get all the screenshots together before I head back to uni in January. I'll probably put out another form after I've got some more posts out, cause things are... in motion.
Wish me luck!
