Great news about Cheeks! Her left sinus and tear duct was completely blocked and Dr. Speer was able to go in, remove some petrified material (likely food that had somehow gotten lodged in her sinus) and flush everything out! She has bacterial cultures pending to check for any residual infection and is getting pain meds and antibiotics tonight. Sweetpea was found on a Sacramento street with a large life-threatening head wound after being attacked by a dog last summer. Thanks to YOU, our incredible supporters and the kind and talented Dr. Speer, she had surgery that saved her and found a permanent home at Blackberry Creek where she is a living example of resilience. Our special needs duck, Puddles, is taking a bath under the watchful eye of @giyaday, our morning caretaker. Puddles was born with a crooked neck that is irreparable because it wasn’t corrected when he was a chick, causing the vertebrae to fuse. He was hatched on a local farm to be one of several ducks sold at a fair’s meat auction by a little boy in 4H. Luckily for Puddles, his disability actually saved his life. He was not “perfect” and therefore could not be shown at auction, being given to us at the sanctuary to live his life in peace. Puddles just had an appointment last week with Dr. Speer @medicalcenterforbirds in Oakley. He prescribed him some new pain meds to keep him comfortable and help with mobility. We love you, Puddles!
