Do we know what film Will is watching there? I know the collider article says that "during an early episode, an important plot-point happens during a sneak peek of George A. Romero‘s Day of the Dead," so I was wondering if that shot of Will is during that, or during another film.
Hm, not sure what they went to watch. Here were the options:
Will seems like a “Return to Oz” kinda viewer... AND THE SUMMARY IS QUITE INTERESTING.
Return to Oz, Dorothy, saved from a psychiatric experiment by a mysterious girl, is somehow called back to Oz when a vain witch and the Nome King destroy everything that makes the magical land beautiful.
But Will likes horror, so it could be “The Stuff”. Lifeforce also seems to be horror scifi and the summary sounds like the plot of season 3
The Stuff, A delicious, mysterious goo that oozes from the earth is marketed as the newest dessert sensation, but the tasty treat rots more than teeth when zombie-like snackers who only want to consume more of the strange substance at any cost begin infesting the world.
Lifeforce, A race of space vampires arrives in London and infects the populace, beginning an apocalyptic descent into chaos.
Daryl is.... also an interesting choice.
Daryl (Barret Oliver) is a normal 10-year-old boy in many ways. However, unbeknown to his foster parents and friends, Daryl is actually a government-created robot with superhuman reflexes and mental abilities.
Fletch is a comedy, more of Bob’s kinda movie. Not sure if Will would go to see that.
If it’s one of the horror movies Will goes to see and he gets a chill, it’d be interesting if one of his friends turned to him seeing him holding his neck like, “Scared?”
Will denies it, but figures maybe the chill is because he’s scared and not for the reasons he first assumed (but it’s totally for the reason he first assumed). Seems like an easy way for Will to not immediately assume something must be happening again and willing to believe the movie gave him chills because like El, he believes the Mind Flayer is locked away
don’t you think it’s weird? how we only seem to hang out when the world’s about to end?
gah, that's so cool that you met bill sienkiewicz. even if you can't share more about the New Mutants set pics, would you mind sharing more about what about them made you really excited for the film?
Hair being perfect on some of the girls (baaaaaangs), the hilt of the Soulsword being so cool, info about all the actors and his observations on how they play them because he KNOWS these characters so well, they’re his kids in a big way.
He said Maisie was amazing and really seemed to get Rahne and her nuances, Charlie may not look like lanky Sam but he brings the vulnerability that makes Sam the heart of the team, he said Henry IS Roberto and gets Roberto and not just the cocky side but all his layers, Anya is the perfect Illyana (he was super excited for her, showed me a pic of him and her solo), and that Blu is clearly the newbie so she seemed a little more green but with the cast around her and the direction they’re getting he’s very confident in her being able to pull off Dani.
The way that Bill gushed and was so excited, especially since it’s HIS big arc and his and Claremont’s vision, made me really excited too. I could tell it was genuine, we talked about it for a while and he had a bunch of other people to sell stuff to, so he clearly didn’t want to stop talking about it!
And he asked me to please please spread the word and the excitement if I could because he wants it to do well and he really believes in it.

the Q of how immunity would work beyond will is so interesting. That order totally makes sense (though I wonder if Dustin after Hopper?) Do we think that UD spores or demogorgon drool would provide immunity, though, when the Mind Flayer's particles look so unique/different?
Here’s how i figured what the order would be, it’s debatable of course, because maybe all these facts (minus Will, I’m like 95% sure he’s immune now) make them MORE susceptible?
Will - For obvious reasons. Has spent the longest amount of time in the Upside Down which actually made him susceptible in the first place... was possessed personally by the Mind Flayer and was about 1% away from being completely taken over before they managed to exorcise him. At this point, he’s probably resistant
El - Was unconscious in the Upside Down for who knows how long and woke up spitting out some weird fluid concoction. When she escaped, she became covered in goo because of the gate and who knows how long it was before she managed to wash it off
Hopper - Much like El, was unconscious for who knows how long and got sprayed in the face twice with spores. As soon as he got out though, they washed him down and it seems they induced vomit as well
Nancy - Nancy was trapped there for a while, maybe 5 to 10 minutes. Was breathing in the air and getting gunk all over her going in and going out. When she got home, she immediately showered though.
Dustin - Got sprayed in the face with spores like Hopper and it got in his mouth at the very least.
Joyce - Went into the Upside Down with protective gear, but when they found Will, she and Hopper took off their masks and breathing equipment. I doubt they put it back on as they walked back to the opening because it’d be harder to monitor Will’s frail condition with huge helmets on
Jonathan - As I mentioned, got nasty spit on his face and in his mouth. YECK. It’s probably about AS bad as Dustin. I just put Dustin higher on the list because Dustin was in the tunnels and I’m sure the crap the kids put on was not actually protecting them as much as they thought. Jonathan’s never been there and maybe spit doesn’t do anything
The rest of the party - As I just mentioned, I doubt the protective gear they were wearing really protected them from anything, but out of the rest of the people on this list, they’ve still had less exposure imo
Everyone else - And no one else has encountered Upside Down mess... except that one officer who touched it with his bare hands and sniffed it. Did you know that guy is like, 27 years old or something??? Same age as me and the teen cast for the most part. Like wowie.
So, I guess this could swing both ways? It could be like a flu vaccine or any vaccines. A little bit of exposure can help the body create a way to fight it off as long as the body isn’t overwhelmed. In Will’s case, he was literally overwhelmed based on how long he was trapped in the Upside Down and then... you know... got a weird tentacle shoved down his throat and threw up slugs.
OR, it could be any exposure makes you more susceptible period, but I don’t think they’ll go that route since they’re supposed to be the heroes figuring things out. Having almost all the main characters as part of the zombie hoard would be ooof. Difficult.
hbd!
Thanks!! 💓
