Quests would have been ten times better if we had least gotten a Thenry kiss in this essay I will-
This might just be the Warbler Island fan in me (it's my favorite place in the whole series) but I really wish there'd been an in-depth look into the Warblerians' feelings about Eagala's return as the Revinir. This might happen in a later book, but as of Dragon Curse it hasn't.
Imagine having a horrible queen rule over your entire island, forcibly take away your ability to speak (you can use sign language but only the signs she allows you to know), brand you by putting acid in your eyes, take away your ability to hear most things, and immediately forces you into work at age 10. You escape her and even manage to take her down and find a kind and decent ruler.
You get 10 years of comfort thinking she's dead only to then find out she's not dead at all. In fact, she's more powerful than ever and once again dictating a whole land of people. Also, she has a revenge plot against the country that helped you take her down in the first place and is actively hunting your loved ones, if not you as well, down to kill them.
I was really hoping we'd get something from Thatcher with this. Especially since he was the one to find out the Revinir was still alive or even later on when he, Seth, and Kaylee are riding on Simber's back and the Revinir offers to let them go in return for Seth, Thisbe, and Rohan.
It would have been interesting from Crow's point of view as well, especially with how terrified he is of Eagala in the first series.
Thinking about the scene in Dragon Ghosts where Dev (under the Revinir's mind control) is attacking Seth and Thatcher is upset they were ordered not to use lethal force against the black eyed kids when he himself was in that same situation as a child (fighting Artimé on the Revinir's behalf without any real say in the matter)
Obviously they're not fully the same situation (Dev is being influenced by mind control and fully fighting for the Revinir / Thatcher went because he had to though he still had his free will and ended up playing a part in the Warbler parents tricking Eagala) and Thatcher's reason for being upset is more he doesn't want Seth getting hurt than wanting to hurt children (because why would he) but I think the parallel is neat
I really like Thatcher Haluki can you tell

After the Google Books leak drop, I really wanted to prepare everyone for the things that happen to pretty much every LBGTQ+ and single character. It’s kinda, disappointing... I want to note that I haven’t read the full book, but the leaks give out a clear picture of pretty much everything that happens and I have read most of the last chapter of the book.
1. Fifer-put into a het. romance...Yeah, I knew this was coming but didn’t want it to happen. We literally didn’t need to sack up EVERY main character with a partner. I actually felt hope in Curse and Fire when she wasn’t romantically or physically attracted to anyone, but nope, we gotta toss that and make her kiss Dev, haha! Not to mention Lisa confirmed Fifer as demisexual, making her ace-spec, which is great but, why not include other asexual, aro, or ace-spec characters who don’t question themselves and get with a opposite sex partner at the end? I question the intent of putting the only asexual-spec character in the series in a het romance.
2. Henry and Thatcher... From what it seems, these two are once again sidelined. There’s a scene where they comfort each other, but again, no kiss. Every confirmed cishet couple has kissed in the series but them (Crowlet, Lanheed, Rohbe, Dev/Fifer, Skylex, Sean/Carina). I find it sad that our only married gay couple is once again pushed out of the spotlight for het romance.
3. Asha and Clementi. I was!! so excited !! when Lisa confirmed these two as a canon couple during a crowdcast, but like Henry and Thatcher, they also appear to be sidelined in the book. It doesn’t appear like they shared a kiss either... We also don’t know if they get married, and any person could interpret them as being just friends if they weren’t watchimg the September crowdcast.
4. Seth. This one had got to make me the most angry. At the end of the book, it’s implied that he got with a minor character named Prindi. The only build up we seem to get is him blushing at her a few times and a few lines of dialogue. They have never interacted prior to this book. So, what was the point of this? Seth could have been as strong, single character! We did not need to pair him up in a het. romance out of nowhere.
5. Ibrahim. Our only remaining single character. Based on the leaks, he appears to disappear and doesn’t play a large role in the book at all. His friendship with Seth becomes pretty much nonexistent.
Anyway, as a nonbinary, single, ace, and bi person, I am tired of getting scraps of rep. There was no reason to kill off or sideline all the single characters (Meghan, Cole, Ibrahim), sideline the canon LBGTQ+ characters (Asha, Clem, Henry, Thatcher) and put the only ace-spec character (Fifer) into a het, romance with not one, but two kiss scenes in the book while the two gay couples get none over the whole series. I love these books a lot, and there is some GREAT scenes in Fury, but the treatment of the LBGTQ+ and single characters makes me absolutely irritated.
