oh god, i understand how you feel about filipinx mindset of adults being respected above all else like good god it's such a tiring thing to think about even if you and the older person know they're wrong. i hate having to stoop down and just obey when i know i'm now at an equal field: the hardest thing is you live under their roof, so you're not allowed to complain or whtvr, even when self care is your top priority. sorry, i just have a lot of thoughts on adults shittily treating their offspring

Right though!! And it’s almost unheard of for young filipinx adults to move out after 18 or so bc everyone and their entire clan sticks together- moving out only happens like way after kids grow into their late twenties or almost 30yrs 

it’s nice financial-wise(?) but at the same time everyone’s so dependent and there’s so much power imbalances and oh god the concept of hiya/shame is always used against people and ghggdfjkf- Older people demand respect, respect, respect even at times they really don’t deserve it at all

im not in the same country as my cousins/extended family/clan/etc anymore but the gathering is just as stressful and adults are always like that
