I don’t think they want to. they want to keep us in the dark  bou nyssa but at least talia was mentioned, even if it was in a flashback. nyssa wasn’t mentioned at all and that got me pissed. I have a feeling she’s still live tho. because otherwise why shroud it in mystery? it makes little sense to me but then again - nothing the arrow writers have done since season 3 have really made sense to me so.

I'd say an 8, but Katie Cassidy scenes fared better, maybe those I'd give a 6

katie had some gr9 scenes that kind of redeemed it (I’m still not over teh line where she says the fishnets thing) but it was still pretty bad, lol.

In regard to the unpopular opinion about Alec and the dragon. Personally, I took that scene as Alec panicked when he didn't kill it first time. His only option would be to let it pass him and then try again but then there would be nothing between Magnus and the dragon so he was yelling "Magnus!" Like a warning and not a plz save me. He killed a circling one earlier that day so it's not like he forgot how to fight, think he just panicked as it was Magnus, and he doesn't think clearly. Also. HI

Yup, like I said, especially after they were still at odds, it was clear that Alec couldn’t think straight. And as you said, he did a perfect shot at the beginning of the episode. It’s just.... when Magnus is around... that is a whole other story. And personally I think.... it really says a lot about him and how much their fights threw him off as well as how far he is gone for this man and his safety. ;)
