Alrighty, this one goes out to legit the one person that read my review of the mortal instrument series! So sit bak and buckle up bud cause were jumping back to 1813. That’s right, we’re talking about Pride and Prejudice. I would like to say that I was a sophisticated child and read it a million times, unfortunately I just finished it a few weeks ago. First of all, the slow burn romance between Eliza and Darcy is everything us YA readers are looking for. I love that in 1813 Jane Austen was writing women who could care less about a man’s money, but more about his level of bitchery and wit. I mean the boy literally proposes to her and she’s just like “Nah, you rude”, like come on that’s gold. Lets talk comparisons real quick, the fact that our girl Jane A. offset Eliza’s standoffish and could care less attitude with other Jane’s kind and gentle persona, was interesting. I mean thinking about it, Jane Bennett is how women in that time were expected to act, docile and quiet. Where as Eliza was almost everything they weren’t, she was combative and snarky and proud. Eliza is just “Ugh, these people suck” then here came sweet Jane to be like “Hold up, maybe they don’t tho”. Another thing is their relationships. While Jane and Bingley seemed to click as soon as they met, Darcy legit called Eliza ugly. Well not in those words, but honestly nothing in this book is in regular words. Anyways, I liked that even though both of these relationships were so utterly different, they weren’t constantly compared to each other. It’s nice to see (even in 1813) people portraying that every relationship is different, what one couple does might not work for another, but that doesn’t mean that either is less than the other. Now their mother, lydia, and Miss.Bingley, they really did suck. I know that their mother only wanted her daughters to be married well, but come on she totally encouraged Lydia’s insane behavior, heck she acted just like her. For a while you kinda think Darcy sucks too, but even Eliza can’t stop thinking about that rude and pretty man. And then the letter?? I mean come on that was cute! He’s bitter and sad cause he just got his butt shot down, and he still wants her to know the truth about him! While it could be said that Eliza pulled a whole 180 after reading it, I really think she was already liking him before then. But in the end I think that everything pretty much worked out the way that it should have. That Wickham dude ended up married to immature Lydia, Miss.Bingley did not get to come between Jane or Eliza’s relationships, Charlotte and Collins got what they wanted a marriage, and everyone lived happily ever after. I am not going to sit here and pretend this book is such an easy read or something, cause it’s not. I mean it takes a whole paragraph just to convey that someone is “pretty” and I don’t think there was a word with less than 6 letters in the whole book! In the end it is a classic with a great historical story and I am really glad I experienced it. On top of that, Elizabeth is my kind of women, she stood up for herself and never took anyones crap all while being a sassy bitch, I aspire to be an Elizabeth. 8/10 I would recommend to a friend.
