in my defense thayet looked Like This for years before neve even existed, but it IS funny when they're on-screen together and all i can think is "god they look like sisters"
datv is a good game because it lets thayet have the muscles that dai and bg3 have denied her thus far
6 & 7 for the OC of your choice!
We're doing Thayet because I have the most feelings about her aesthetics right now whooo anyway here's some pictures for reference
What was the thought process behind their appearance? Did you go mostly for the aesthetic or are there other reasons they look the way they do?
For the OCs I tend to make for video games, my only initial goal is "make a hot lady I want to look at for 100 hours" and I just vibe in the CC until a hot lady appears. I definitely start at "interesting to look at" and then work backwards from there.
I'd already played Inquisition a couple of times, so I was just making new PCs for fun. Thayet was kind of a vague mashup of a couple of characters from a Tamora Pierce book (which I was obsessed with when I was 10), and she was just like a fun new OC to throw together that I wasn't planning on doing anything with, so she got to be kind of a special snowflake. Then I got attached to her, and here we are.
She's gone through some aesthetic revisions over time, and when I picture her in my head, she looks most like the version of her I made for BG3. Her color palette has warmed up quite a lot to go with her consistent sun imagery (either the Andrastian sunburst or the Lathanderite symbolism she gets in Faerun). My first priority is to entertain myself with this stuff, and I watched so much goddamn Sailor Moon that the urge to make my own magical girl just for fun as an adult is, like, if I'm not even indulging myself here then what's the point of hobbies, you know? So Thayet gets to glow and be shiny and have neat special mobility aids with magic powers and wings and what the fuck ever I feel like at the moment. OC maximalism. The She-Ra: Princesses of Power school of character design, the likes of which is seen mostly in high fantasy writers in the 80s and the people who grew up reading their books and get to make stuff for themselves now.
Anyway I think she's neat to look at
7. What is an aspect of their appearance that you like the most? It's either her height or her hair. I love that she's just kind of a physically imposing person. Like, it's fantasy fiction, so of course most of the important men are 6ft tall or more so it's less impressive. But Thayet is about 5' 11", and in my head people see her the way that people used to see Lucy Lawless when she played Xena (as this larger than life mythological hero that made everything feel so cool and tough). There's just a lot of "here's some fond memories I had when I was younger" in this character, I guess
So, it's either that vibe, or her hair. "Canonically", she usually wears it in a braided crown. And I like that it can evoke a range of things, because it's not a super common hairstyle but it's not an unusual one, either. It feels like it's either meant to make people think of a literal crown, or a wreath of laurels in a sort of Midsommer, cult kind of way, or just something feminine and moderately time-consuming that shows she's still grounded. In-universe, she does it that way because the First Enchanter at her Circle (whom she was totally in love with by then) did it for her for a party and she liked it so much that she kept doing it.
Putting it that way, it's probably the hair
